A value that has survived the passing of time and that today we are going to discover.

The Abtao Naval Museum
Dear friends, we are going to enter the submarine via its facilities. We are going to be able to discover all of the things related to Peru's naval force and its secrets... Let's go!
The Abtao Museum has something that is a bit different from the other museums in Peru, in the way that many of the monuments here in our society are located on the earth. For example, they are either in the historical centre of Lima or in the same historical centre of El Callao. However, in the case of the Abtao Submarine, it's unique in Peru as it is found on the sea.

This is a heritage that has configured its past through its more than 50 years of service to the nation, after having completed more than 5, 000 excursions. It is located 100 metres away from the Grau del Callao Plaza.
The interest in converting the Abtao Submarine into a museum resides in the donations that the government of Peru received in order to develop it into one. Its facilities have been prepared so that it were as if it was actually functioning and therefore making your visit as if you were in the height of its activity.

This museum has been growing; at first the submarine was no more than a room of videos, however later it has been transformed into a room home to the history of submarines.

History of Abtao
All of the submarines carry the names of the battles, in the case of this submarine, it carried the name of a battle that was carried out by the hands of Peru. It was ordered to be constructed by the Peruvian Government for a United States company in 1956. Since then and up until the year 2000, it has served the seafarers' school and the Peruvian army.

A submarine that is currently at the service of education, approximately 80% of its visitors are children, also the most beautiful thing is to see the children who come to Callao to know the sea for the first time.
When you enter the Abtao Submarine, you will be able to go inside the installations for approximately 30-40 minutes. On finishing, you will be directed to the area where you will find the canon that is found afloat on the same submarine.

This museum is undoubtedly has a constant stream of visitors that come from many parts of Peru. It is a very safe place where accidents are impossible as it is found to be tethered to the coast of Callao.

The submarine is complete with its 6 compartments that are the attractions of the museum. Furthermore, the museum (or the submarine) is 63 metres long and 7 metres wide and so you can live here for more than 2 months on the water without any problems.
This place is a point of motivation for everyone and anyone who wants to enter the marine world and its armed forces. If you are a lover of ships, boats and the rest, this place is for you!
The compartments have a lot of different machines that are truly surprising to see, and with a great amount of machines as well as bedrooms where the personnel of the submarine used to sleep.
Inside the submarine there is also its heart; the central part where you can find a telescope from where you can look into the distance.
It has everything as if it were a house, even a dining room. It's really surprising.

There is no doubt that learning about all of these machines is a true challenge and it is so good that we can have these kinds of experiences in order to promote future Peruvians to be a part of this museum.

San Lorenzo Island
For another part, let me tell you about the part of the submarine or the part of the Callao coast that you can see the biggest island in all of Peru from, the Island of San Lorenzo.
It is a natural resource as well as a refuge for many things for all of us, so it has a lot of interesting things that are related to nature and history.
Strategically placed in the north-east of Callao, the Island of San Lorenzo is considered to be the largest island with the highest altitude on our coast. It has a total of 8 kilometres of length and 2km of width. It has a couple of small beaches, caverns, chasms and ravines with a unique geography.
Over the years, it has been a silent testament to all of the saddest facts about the history of Callao, like for example the earthquake and tsunami of 1746 that destroyed the first Peruvian port.

The value of the island is immense, it is a great place for bio-diversity and therefore we need to conserve it. Furthermore, for our own interest, I will tell you that San Lorenzo Island is a park, a reserve and it also has an altar and a Pre-Hispanic cemetery, along with another from the 19th century.
The island never had a permanent occupation, however it was constantly visited by the old inhabitants of Peru in order to enter their deaths. On the outside, there was an important part for Colonial Peru, as well as during the consolidation of Peruvian Independence and the War of the Pacific. . In short terms, this Island of San Lorenzo encompasses the entire history of Peru!
From the moment of the creation of the mountain ranges up until now, its heritage is protected nowadays by the Peruvian state, within its great value we can find an interesting location for wildlife, and an important place to convert into an eco-museum.
Here we could find nature-lovers, like for example scientists, lovers of bird-watching, as well as archaeologists who have been able to find ceramics and skeletons, in addition to adoratories and temples within their ritual environments.
Little by little, you will find an interesting collection that makes it unique and marvelous, as well as converting those things into a great museum collection, one of the great challenges that this island has.

Important characters have passed through this island, like the very Max Uhle who found a cloth, also the great scientist Charles Darwin and the scientist Antonio Raimondi. As you can see, dear friends, we have found many things that have given value.
Nowadays, close to it we have incredible fauna, like the Palomino island where there are sea lions and Humboldt penguins. There's no doubt about it, dear friends, this is the future.
San Lorenzo is as if she were the woman and the island the rock on the side is as if it were the child. It is a marvellous place filled with wildlife and a place that will be protected as a eco-tourist site.
It is important to conserve it and the investigations that we have been able to find in the island are part of the history that has been able to be found in the history of Peru.
