Experience in Buenos Aires, Argentina by Flor
What is it like to live in Buenos Aires? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
It is a very nice and European-like city. There are many things to do, buy, to check because the city and the people are slowly trying to open up to foreigners and tourists. You will find English speakers and English-speaking activities in very central and popular places but you might have some difficulties in everyday life if you do not speak a little of Spanish.
What is the student lifestyle like in Buenos Aires?
Student life is very fun, there are many places to go out (clubs and discos) but there are many pubs as well for you to hang out with friends. There are different areas around the city to go to (Recoleta, Cañitas, Pto Madero, Palermo... ) you can both have a nice dinner and stay for drinks.
How much does it cost to live in Buenos Aires?
Life in Buenos Aires nowadays is quite expensive for Argentinians, for tourists it can be cheap because of the money exchange (you can get 15 pesos for every dollar or euro) but still have a regular dinner (not at a very nice place) that will cost, at least 70 pesos.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Buenos Aires? Is there any advice you can give?
Temporary rentals are growing faster and faster nowadays. I do not think it will be hard to find place. I do not know about shared flats or rooms, I wouldn't advise it unless it is someone that you know or you have his references. People can deceive and take advantage of that. Students should be careful when someone is offering them random bedroom.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
We eat lots of meat, that is what here is the best. We do have a lot of Italian influences so pasta and pizza are very good as well. I would advise students to try our steaks, they are definitely the best.
What places would you recommend visiting in Buenos Aires?
The city center has a very Parisian/European like architecture, we do have some post-modernistic/impressionistic buildings. La Boca is a must see, you have to watch a tango show (or at least walk around Caminito and you will find lots of dancers showing off their skills).
Is it good to eat out in Buenos Aires? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
To eat out can be a bit expensive. There are very trendy places as Palermo Soho/Hollywood. You can find very nice spots to eat trendy dishes.
Is the nightlife good in Buenos Aires? Where is good to go?
Nightlife is great and it lasts until 6 or 7 am. We go out around 12 am to get drinks or we get together somewhere and usually go to the club around 2. 30. There are some great spots in Palermo, Pto. Madero and Costanera.
