What is it like to live in Buenos Aires? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Living in Buenos Aires, comes with the advantages and consequences of living in a big city. On the one hand you have a variety of activities to do every day and on the other hand the stress of transport and high density of people on streets. All in all, its a very enjoyable city. The people, the food and the culture are amazing. The city has a lot to offer and you can never get bored, it has so different "barrios" and different activities it never gets boring.

What is the student lifestyle like in Buenos Aires?

We tend to work as well as study. In public univeristy classes start early and finish really late. People are really nice, and there is a lot of integration with foreign people, and partying almost every single day. Bars and pubs close really late, and there is a lot of cultural activities to enjoy in group.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Buenos Aires? Is there any advice you can give?

Its not very difficult to find accommodation. Depends what type of accommodation, but I would recommend getting reference first. The neighbourhoods that I recommend are Belgrano, Recoleta, Palermo. They are close to the city center and close to transportation, with a lot of bars and restaurantes to get together.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

I love the food and restaurantes. There is a wide variety of different types of food. I recommend steak (asado), pastel de carne, empanadas, locro are the typical dishes.

What places would you recommend visiting in Buenos Aires?

It's so varied, but the places that I enjoy the most are:

  • Plaza Serrano — to go out you have a wide variety of restaurants and bars, and on weekends there is a 'Feria Artesanal' to enjoy walking.
  • Puerto Madero — it's expensive but its worth to walk around.
  • San Telmo — very pitoresque, it's one of the most turistic neighbourhoods. On Av Corrientes there are a lot of book stores and theaters. The city center is well recommended for its architecture, it's amazing to see the clash with new buildings and old ones (French style).

Is it good to eat out in Buenos Aires? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

I recommend Plaza Serrano, Plaza Armenia, you have a lot of good places to visit. Then personally i would recommend Tea connection (to eat its delicious), Havanna or Bonafide (for coffee and pastries), and Las cholas (dinner)

Is the nightlife good in Buenos Aires? Where is good to go?

Nightlife is really good, it starts really late around 1 am and finished at 6 am, if you go dancing. According to the day and bar you have different type of music. Then restaurants and bars are nearby, and really enjoyable.

What advice would you give future students heading to Buenos Aires?

As in any big city there are thieves and people get robbed. I would recommend, to take care of your belongings, not to leave things unattended and keep your back pack on your front in the subway. Other than that, it's a good city, to enjoy, and relax.
