Budapest: Markets, Christmas and Lights

Hello!

Welcome, once again to another post. This one is a little more special as it is about Christmas!

I'm guessing that you guys, like me, like to coincide your visits to other cities with Christmas so that we can see the Christmas Markets that we all like! They are special in Budapest; they are huge and have a peculiar smell of hot wine and cinnamon. Try it!

The cold and the large amount of people that accumulate on these dates aren't an obstacle that stops you from being able to visit the Christmas Markets of Budapest. There are various which are prettier than others, and you should pass through the Central Market as well, which changes itself in order to receive Christmas tourists.

I have to say, although my expectations were high, the markets were fantastic! You can buy anything in them, from Christmas souvenirs to enjoying typical Hungarian food in the fresh air, and... Then we find ourself at the other stalls of the markets which are more international.

Location

Let me tell you that, when I went, I visited two Christmas Markets. One was located in the Vorosmarty Square and the other in the Saint Stephen's Square.

However, always keep one thing in mind: you are going to find many tourists no matter what time it is; these are the dates during which both tourists and local citizens take to the streets to enjoy the magic of Christmas, and I was so shocked that despite all the cold and rain, people were on the street.

Both markets are beautiful places to spend time, either during the day or at night, you will always meet people, and you will always be able to enjoy a wonderful walk illuminated by the Christmas trees and by the lights of the Christmas stalls and various Christmas decorations.

It's wonderful!

What you can buy

In these markets I found all kinds of ceramics, porcelain, goldsmiths, hats, gloves, candlesticks, books, wooden toys... Everything you can imagine is in these markets. Go through each and every one of the stalls there!

I didn't even have to leave these markets to find food to eat, ideal! You can taste the typical gastronomy of the country and continue walking around the Christmas stalls. That's what I did, so I recommend doing it because you won't lose a single detail

Gastronomy

Try Kenyérlangos, a very thin bread baked in clay ovens with smoked bacon and onion; or also Lángos, a fried bread with cheese and more sauces. I have to say that I only tried the first one, and I loved it, so the Lángos has to be very good.

Another one I tried was the Pecsenye , grilled meat. It was very good!, One that you will like for sure is the Kolbasz, the Hungarian chorizo, it's very good.

If you have more of a sweet tooth (do not stop yourself from trying anything), try the Kürtôskalács , cake with sugar on top, with nuts or with cinnamon.

The wine! Don't forget! Try hot wine with tea, and more that you should try, too.

The Central Market of Budapest during Christmas also changes itself and becomes suitable for the timing; everything is adorned with Christmas accessories and lights. You will be able to find any kind of souvenir there, especially Christmas-themed ones.

A return to this market would not be a waste! In my opinion it was one of the markets that I liked the most and that I would never get tired of seeing as it was so big and becuase of the variety of thing it had in it.

Everything at Christmas is magical, and of course it wouldn't be anything less than that in Budapest! Enjoy the charming city of Budapest full of Christmas lights and atmosphere.

I loved it! You will love it!

See you in the next post, travellers!
