What is it like to live in Bucharest? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It seemed like a great place to love, it's a very safe city that's in a constant state of change, there's always something new. I would recommend it, I've lived here for more than 8 years now. There are a lot of parks and interesting places to visit.

What is the student lifestyle like in Bucharest?

There are a lot of students. The majority of Romanian university students are in Bucharest, there are also a lot of Israeli and Middle Eastern students living here. The student lifestyle is a very lively one.

How much does it cost to live in Bucharest?

Life in Bucharest can be cheap if you look for the right places to shop and go out drinking. It can also be very expensive if you don't look at the prices. The price of the same item can be very different depending on where you buy it. I would say that someone can live very comfortably off €600-700 a month. You can live well off less, too, but only if you are careful about where you spend your money and what you're buying.

Was it difficult to find accommodation in Bucharest? Do you have any advice?

There is always accommodation available in Bucharest. The prices are very different in the different places depending on what facilities each place is offering. The best thing to do is to go to an estate agent and tell them exactly what you want, including how much you are able to pay for your accommodation. It's the fastest and safest way.

What is the food like there? What are your favourite dishes?

The food in Romania is great, especially the seasonal fruit and vegetables, they are delicious. They eat a lot of meat, which can get boring sometimes. The fish from the river is really good. They eat a lot of Ciorba de fasole (bean soup).

What places would you recommend visiting in Bucharest?

It's great to walk through the historic centre, but the parks are spectacular too. There are a few huge parks, like Herăstrău, which has a lake you can go boating on. There's also the National Village Museum there; it's an open air museum that has traditional houses from every area. The museums, theatres and the opera are very affordable.

And to eat in Bucharest? What are some of your favourite places to go to?

Eating in Bucharest isn't very expensive, there are a lot of Italian restaurants and, of course, traditional food, like Caru cu Bere, which you have to go to - it's more than 200 years old and they've kept the original decor. I would also recommend a Belgian restaurant called Waterloo. The food is great and reasonably priced, in general.

Where would you recommend for a night out in Bucharest?

The historical centre is full of bars, pubs and club. Club A is one of the most well known, it never goes out of style and is most known, historically and traditionally, for students and its rock 'n' roll atmosphere. A more modern alternative is Ota, it's more of a club, but weirdly on Thursdays they serve soup! They play house and dance music there. There are guides and reviews everywhere where you can read about all of the bars and other places in Bucharest.

Do you have any advice for future students in Bucharest?

The only advice I can think of is to not worry and to have a good time, the city is very safe. You really have to explore, because all of the most interesting places are hidden in some house, villa or patio. You'll always find something strange in Bucharest.
