What is it like to live in Bucharest? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

The city is very busy, Oriental style trafficking... There is a lot of variety. Be prepared for the winter, for the snows are big and sometimes traffic can be interrupted.

What is the student lifestyle like in Bucharest?

If you live in a dorm, you will fully experience the student life in Bucharest. People are very friendly and they include you in their friends circle really quickly. Prices are also cheap if you go on huge supermarkets (eg Carrefour, Auchan, Cora, etc). Lots of friends and lots of fun.

How much does it cost to live in Bucharest?

It depends. On average, if you live in a dorm, pay 50-70 euros per month, facilities included. Some are even cheaper.

Transport is around 10-15euros per month in metro (students), 15 euros for non students. The metro can leave you just about anywhere. Otherwise, 200eur/month should do, unless you're the type to indulge.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Bucharest? Is there any advice you can give?

Accommodation is quite easy to find. It's best to go for areas like Dristor, Eroilor, Piata Iancului, Piata Muncii... Avoid accommodation in the areas of Rahova, Ferentari and Drumul Taberei, as they are both quite dangerous and they lack metro stations.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

You need to try the shawormas at Dristor Kebab, they are like the staple food of every student. Costs around 3 euros a small one. Try drinking palinca or tuica, the national strong drinks with 60% alcohol. Also try the porridge (mamaliga).

What places would you recommend visiting in Bucharest?

The old city, museums (Antipa Museum at Piata Victoriei), the botanical garden (Eroilor area) and, of course, the campus of Politehnica University, it's full of clubs.

Is it good to eat out in Bucharest? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

The food is ok in Bucharest. I don't normally eat out. Try Dristor Kebab food or Calif food (Iancului area).

Is the nightlife good in Bucharest? Where is good to go?

The nightlife is great: cheap prices and a lot of fun. I have also met a lot of internationals and they were all happy about the nightlife.

Try the old city: Bordello, Goblin, Club A...

What advice would you give future students heading to Bucharest?

Have fun, meet as many people as you can and go to Vama Veche on may 1st! Trains are cheap. Enjoy!
