Experience in Bucharest, Romania by Ioana
What is it like to live in Bucharest? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
I have been living in Bucharest for four years, because of my studies. I don't quite like this place, I personally prefer places with more architecture and nature. But if you are a person who likes to party, then Bucharest is the place for you.
What is the student lifestyle like in Bucharest?
The majority of the students are living in the university's dormitory. The atmosphere is pretty nice, they made a lot of parties and Politehnica and Belvedere are the most known dormitories for parties.
How much does it cost to live in Bucharest?
I've stayed in the dormitory for these years, so I was paying less than 50 Euros per month. But for example, I know that the price for the Erasmus people in my dormitory was 150 Euros, but I think to rent a room in a flat is around 200-250 euros so it is more convenient.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Bucharest? Is there any advice you can give?
Because I stayed in the dormitory, I never had this problem of accommodation. It is a bit difficult, but if you have someone to help you, nothing is impossible.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Romanians love to eat. We have lot of dishes, but I don't have a favorite dish, I like for example, grilled chicken with cabbage salad and dill. Also, I like tomatoes and cheese, and 'zacusca', a traditional dish made with vegetables. But the tastes are different, so is better to try and have your own opinion.
What places would you recommend visiting in Bucharest?
I recommend you to visit 'People House', 'Carl, Herastrau and Cismigiu Parks', also walking on Victoria Avenue, and the Old city.
Is it good to eat out in Bucharest? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
My favorite spot to eat is 'Caru cu' bere', you can find it in the Old city. There you can find traditional food and a great menu. And also I can recommend Embassy Lounge.
Is the nightlife good in Bucharest? Where is good to go?
Yes, as I told you above, I recommend Bucharest for its nightlife. In the Old center you can find clubs, pubs and also restaurants.
What advice would you give future students heading to Bucharest?
