What is it like to live in Brno? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Brno is the second largest city in the Czech Republic. I lived there for three years. The city is beautiful, magnificent and also very cheap because it's so called student city of Czech Rep. There are also a lot of young people and a lot of music festivals and food festivals too. I can recommend this city for job and also for studying.

What is the student lifestyle like in Brno?

Brno is so called student city. There are so many students during the year. Students make a lot of events and actions like festivals and meetings. There is really a lot of fun, you will never be bored there. Every Wednesday there is a student night, so usually all of students are in the clubs and clubs has a lot of drink actions for them, for example 1+1 beer for one price, or Piña colada for 2 euro and so on.

How much does it cost to live in Brno?

The rents are very cheap even in the city centre. There are not a lot of single rooms (single rooms are about 150 - 200€ per month), but there are many shared rooms which are really cheap, for example double room 100 - 140€ bills included. City transport is also very cheap. For students it is 25€ per transport card per three months, and for adults it's 0, 75€ per one person and one way.

The pubs, restaurants and cafes are also very cheap because of students, who are usually very poor. So the beer at the centre is about 1€, wine 2dl is 1, 50€, fast food (kebab, pizza etc. ) is from 1-4€ and normal food at restaurant cost on average about 5, 20€.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Brno? Is there any advice you can give?

You can find the best accommodation in Brno via Facebook groups like Bydlení v Brně, Bydlení Brno, Pronájem Brno, Spolubydlení Brno apod. Or you can use websites like this one. There are usually rooms for renting without any additional charge.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Brno is one of the most gastronomic city in the Czech Republic. For example Bar který neexistuje is one of the most interesting places in the Czech Rep according to CNN list. And it's really a cool place, if you like good imported alcohol or good food like burgers. There is also the best burger restaurant I've ever been called BURGER INN, located at the city centre (only about 100m far away from Freedom Square).

There is a pub Zelná Kočka, where is every day different kind of beers and they have usually about 7 or 9 kind of beers. If you like beer, you should visit also pub called Pivní Burza. You can spin the beer itself directly at the table from the tap. All of restaurants are very popular in Czech.

If you love fish, the best restaurant is Ocean 48. They have absolutely fresh fish. One of the best hipster places is Kavárna Trojka, also very near of the centre. Or if you are looking for only good pub where you can eat really good tartar, ribs or other typical Czech pub food and you want to drink a good beer, you should go to the pub Pod Lékárnou, at Veveří street, near the centre too.

In Brno there are also a lot of tearooms at the city centre, almost at every corner.

What advice would you give future students heading to Brno?

Enjoy Brno and make the most of it. It's the perfect city for Erasmus and for studying. I tried to study and also work there and I didn't have any problems with pricing border. The city is beautiful and perfect for night life, because almost all clubs are in the city centre, less than 5 minutes walk apart. Every student will help you with everything you will need, people there are amazing. I can really recommend Brno for living.
