Brno is the second biggest city in Czech Republic, right after the capital Prague. It is a very safe city and you can walk around relaxed.

Brno has a great location: it's about 2 hours far from Prague or Vienna or Bratislava, being a great city for people who like to travel. Beside that, Brno also has an airport not far from the city center with some low cost connections. By bus, by train or plain you have great opportunities to travel around and visit many amazing European cities. If you like to travel this could be without a doubt your city!

Brno is an international city, with their business parks full of well known companies from all over the world (USA, India, Switzerland, etc), that were attracted to move here for the low cost operations that Czech Republic offers. This made my experience in Brno extend longer than the period of Erasmus Enterprise, and I am here already for 3 years. How cool is that? Here you get to live in a beautiful city, to work for the best companies in the world and be surrounded by colleagues/friends from all over the world. Offering you a professional and cultural experience so good that it's hard to explain! But if you want to know more, feel free to contact me.

Brno has 400, 000 inhabitants, nice local people, always ready for a beer or wine, to party, have fun and do many outside activities. You will see many people with their bicycles or skates, as soon as the the first spring days arrive. People here generally like sports specially Ice Hokey. The team in Brno "Kometa" is loved by many (http://www.hc-kometa.cz/)!

The transport in the city and suburbs is great: great connections, frequent time tables and on time schedule. For students is very cheap, specially if you have student card. You should definitely get in your country the ISIC card (http://www.isiccard.com/).

Brno and Czech people are always ready to party, eat and drink well. Just by curiosity, Czech Republic has the highest consumption of beer in the the world. And I am talking about absolute numbers and not quantity per capita... Sweet?! I guess so! As almost all the cities in Czech republic, Brno also have a Castle and their own beer. The Pub in the beer factory is a wonderful place to taste Brno's beer - Starobrno (http://www.vitejte.cz/).

Other great places:

The best disco:

Brno is also a center of culture with frequent orchestra concerts, dance shows, ballet, and rock concerts such as Rolling Stones, Marilyn Manson, Lenny Kravitz (these only while I've been here - so a lot in a very short time).

Good to know:

  • This link will help you to go to any place in Czech Republic. It's in Czech but if you manage to use it (maybe with the help of a friend) it will help you a lot: http://www.seznam.cz/.
  • The currency in Czech Republic is Koruna (around 25 Koruna for 1 Euro).
  • The temperature goes from -20 degrees in the winter up to 40 degrees in the Summer. It's beautiful in the white winter and in the green summer!

Czech:

  • Good morning! - Dobry den!
  • Hello! - Ahoj!
  • A beer! - Jedno pivo!
  • Please! - Prosim!

So now you alredy know how to ask for a beer: Jedno pivo, prosim!

Na zdravía! - Cheers!

Been in Brno for a month now and I cannot fault this description. Anyone thinking of coming here should definitely do it! You will NOT regret this choice! Just one thing though. If you want to not sound like a foreigner - don't say Jedno Pivo - say Jeden Skopek - it is the local Moravian dialect and it really gets you places. People always assume I am Czech if I say Jeden (I am English for reference!!!)
