Why did you choose to go to Brno, Czech Republic?

Actually because there is a racetrack. And my friend/colleague student was a big fan of car racing.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I received an Erasmus scholarship, I think it was around €1000-1200 for 4 months.

In Brno we also received a scholarship from the university (VUT) but I don't remember how much this was.

What is the student lifestyle like in Brno?

Party as much as you can and enjoy life!

Would you recommend the city and the University of Brno to other students?

Of course! If I could I would go back immediately.

What is the food like?

Cheap! When you go to a restaurant or something it is cheap! For €5-6 you have a warm meal + a drink. The food is not from the highest standard but it is really ok. And in the cafeteria of the university you can eat a warm meal/pizza/pasta for more or less €2. They have online menu wich you can translate into English!

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Brno?

Technical University of Brno (VUT) has its own dormitories and it was very easy to book our accomodation online.

How much does it cost to live in Brno?

Life is cheaper than Western-Europe. Food is cheaper. When you go out, in a club you pay €1 for half a liter of beer. €3-4 for a cocktail. Accomodation was for us about €110 per person per month.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available in the University?

The language is not easy.

ISC (international students club) offers a free language course in the beginning of your stay.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Brno from your city?

I had good friends who brought me by car. But there is an airport in Brno, low cost firms as Ryanair and Wizzair fly on Brno Airport. You can also fly to Prague and take a bus (from Studentagency) to Brno.

Very comfortable buses! The ones I took had individual screens with movies, series, games,.. Wifi... A trip from Prague to Brno with Studentagency costs about €8 if I am right.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Brno?

Two Faces, Bastilla, Mandarin, 7nebe (7th heaven),..

ISC can recommend other clubs where they have special Erasmus parties.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Brno?

Sunset Restaurant! I don't remember the names of other ones.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Spilberk castle. ISC organizes regularly some trips for Erasmus people. The trip to Krakow (Poland) is also interesting! There are some capitals nearby so use this chance to visit them! Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Bratislava.

Is there any other advice that you could give to future students who are going to Brno?

Don't waste your time sitting on your own at dormitories. Go out, do trips, cultural visits, make friends, have fun! People might seem not very friendly, but just be friendly to them. And if you need more info, just contact me.
