Why did you choose to go to Brno, Czech Republic?

  • Low cost of living.
  • Country in the centre of Europe.
  • Opportunity to travel to different countries, for little money.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I can't correctly answer that question because I'm in a private establishment in France. But I think the amount of the scholarship is 300 to 400 euros per month. Is very high for the cost of living here!

What is the student lifestyle like in Brno?

Discovery, travel, parties, meetings, visits.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Brno to other students?

Yes! I do not really like parties, but I loved the opportunity to discover a new culture, meet Czech native, and travel. Vienna, Prague, Budapest..

What is the food like?

Goulash, stews, many kinds of breads, cakes. And most importantly, beer...

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Brno?

It is possible to live in university residences for a low price. However, I decided to have a little peace, I chose to live in an apartment. I have done research before I left, and made an appointment with the owner before my arrival.

Everything went well, the apartment is great, the owner speaks English and is very friendly. I advise to look before coming, otherwise you'll take the first one offers, and it will not be the best choice!

How much does it cost to live in Brno?

By choosing to live in an apartment, allowing himself some leisure, outings, and a trip a month, I think 400 to 500 € is enough.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Czech is a very different language from French, at first I had a little trouble making myself understood. Do not be afraid, Czech are friendly, and young people speak English.

Czechs lessons are available at the university. I think it is interesting to be a minimum polite with people who do not speak English.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Brno from your city?

There is an airport in Brno, but not for many destinations. I advise you to use Prague, Bratislava, Budapest and Vienna; or any other big city.

Living in the south of France, close to Spain, I chose to travel to Bratislava (Slovakia) in Girona (Spain). Airline tickets with Ryanair are € 30 if you buy early. The Brno Bratislava bus tickets are € 6.

It is also possible to travel by bus, if you wish, but it is a bit long and not necessarily less expensive, it takes about 100 €.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Brno?

I'm not a person who comes out a lot in the night.. But all Erasmus and foreigners speak of one : two faces, in the center of Brno.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Brno?

Many restaurants are very good, and cheap!

Some are in basements, we do not see them, it was almost afraid to go there, but some are very very good, a big surprise when opening the door. For example, it the nekonecno. Ability to eat a wide plank ribs or chicken thighs for less than 10 €.

Other restaurants / pubs are very well:

  • Charlies's Square
  • Restaurant-brewery Starobrno
  • I also advise you to taste the dishes in the main square, the square of freedom in times of markets.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

  • Ossuary St James
  • Zoo
  • And enjoy traveling, transportation is very cheap and very comfortable.
