Brrrrrrr in Brno

January 22nd was the day of me and my 6 months' boyfriend arrival in Brno. Add a little sprinkle of internship and a culture that is completely opposite of your own, and it's just one of the many recipes for adventure and personal growth.

This was how I thought my experience would be in this new country.

When we arrived in Brno, with two bags each filled to their core with warm socks and hopes, we were stuck at the airport for 2 hours. By choice, of course, because we were both wearing like 4 jackets each in order to be able to bring them here without paying extra for luggage. Nothing related to how scared we were to go to a new city and start looking for a place to live for the next six months, while learning and discovering more about each other and how we worked as partners in love.

The city was cool. I can't say I was marveled by it, because all I could think of was how my nose was pretty close to necrosis and how using my phone meant taking my hands out of the warmest gloves of my life (these were just my regular gloves, but they felt so life-saving at the moment that all my feelings for them somehow grew disproportionaly... I guess scientist would call it "Misattribution of arousal". Look it up, it might help you on your next date! ;) ).

So, the city was cool, albeit a bit grey. The people were blonder, taller and had stronger legs and bottoms than in my country. This was a plus (amongst other pluses and minuses). Overall, I felt like the city could become a friend. Every street, a conversation. Every turn, unexpected news. Every nook and cranny, a confession. Every picture, a memory. You know, a friend.

I had arranged a couchsurfing place for us to stay until we could find a house or a room. The guy lived in a beautiful house with two other guys. Their rooms were spacious, the kitchen was big, the garden was enormous, their bathtub looked like an ancient roman or greek bath. We were quite impressed. The decoration was...alternative, but we had no problems with that. We had a place to stay! That was a big "phew" for us. Seems perfect, right?

Wrong. It wasn't perfect. Far from it. But it was what we needed, and we were thankful for it. :)

The adventures, however, were about to start.
