Experience in Bratislava, Slovakia by Adriána
What is it like to live in Bratislava? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Bratislava is a nice city, but it also has some worse parts like every big city. There are many ways to spend free time during day and night. It's not such a big city so you can easily get used to it.
What is the student lifestyle like in Bratislava?
There are many clubs and bars to take rest after exams. Many places to drink a good beer and a lot of interesting places. You can also take the train, they are free for students with ISIC card and go around Slovakia. Bratislava is also close to Wien in Austria.
How much does it cost to live in Bratislava?
It depends on if you live in student houses or in a flat. In the city center you can pay 450-900 € per month depending on how big the flat is. Student houses are pretty cheap. For example, I pay 70 € per month in Mlada garda and the student house is really good and reconstructed. I would recommend it for everyone, but students from Slovak University of Technology usually live there. There are also other houses like that but might be older.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Bratislava? Is there any advice you can give?
Exchange students should always get an acommondation in student houses from their school or faculty. I don't know much about living in the city because I have always lived in student houses. But the early you book it, the better you get.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
In Bratislava there are many, many types of restaurants so everyone can find their favorite food.
What places would you recommend visiting in Bratislava?
Bratislava castle, Slavín, the theatre, the main square and Christmas markets.
Is it good to eat out in Bratislava? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Well, in the city center there are some restaurants way too expensive but you can always find a place to eat in Bratislava, you just have to look for them. Roxor Burgers has the best burguers in Bratislava, but you have to make a reservation. Also Alzbetka has good beer and good food also during lunch time. Right now I don't even know.
Is the nightlife good in Bratislava? Where is good to go?
There are many clubs and bars. For example in Trafo there are also many foreign people and good music. Luna has old music and there are many more. There are also some festivals during the year.
What advice would you give future students heading to Bratislava?
Don't jugde Slovakia if you stay just in Bratislava. It's like every big city with their good and bad sides. You will not be bored if you want to explore. Wish you a nice stay in Bratislava. It is a small big city and it has its own magic.
