Experience in Bolzano, Italy by Jaffari
What is it like to live in Bolzano? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
I'm writing this review on behalf of Non-EU and international students who want to study there.
First of all, If you are a Non-EU student come from Asian or African countries,
DO NOT EVER THINK OF COMING HERE FOR STUDIES!!
Being here for a few years and studying here I saw the consequences of studying here. The small city has not many opportunities; Plus your English speaking skills get you nowhere;
The city has nice views and nature, surrounded by mountains but the local community is really far from being friendly, so never expect help on your needs unless you know people over there.
You are coming here with lots of hopes for spending your or your family's hard-working money not too heartbroken or struggle but to successful studies and find better employment at the end and have a good life, I can admit that you would have to struggle a lot (Perhaps stressed up tremendously according to my and some of my overseas friend's experiences). Most of the overseas students I've started studies with dropped out of the course and only a few graduated at last.
These comments may not be applied for those who want to study short term or Erasmus who wants to come and have fun for a semester.
What is the student lifestyle like in Bolzano?
There are plenty of events that seem to organized by students for students but they are mainly focused on the Erasmus students community. I saw big ignorance for non-EU overseas students (Most of them do not even have an idea if they're as they are freshly coming from 3rd world countries). But a true international can feel it and which is really frustrating.
How much does it cost to live in Bolzano?
The prices are ridiculous for such a small place that doesn't offer much value for the price. Can't rent a room less than 400eu a month.
It's still fine if the place can offer a better value for that price. Better go to Milan and pay that price, at least it's a big city with opportunities.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Bolzano? Is there any advice you can give?
Really hard when the academic season starts. If you are on a budget this can be even harder.
It's like they try to pack many students as they can in a tiny little place without thinking about any welfare facilities.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
If you like Pizza, pasta, wine, yes this is still a place.
As I remember I liked srudal though.
What places would you recommend visiting in Bolzano?
Visit talvera park in the summer, you'll find more fun loving people hanging out there.
Is it good to eat out in Bolzano? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Well, there are so many bars and restaurants out there to eat out but the question is in how many spots would respect the money you pay to get these foods. (As I remember in few bars/restaurants/ice cream stalls reluctant to serve me; Probably I may be too dark to be served )
Is the nightlife good in Bolzano? Where is good to go?
People are often hanging out at night. Still, not recommended to go out alone if you are an international.
What advice would you give future students heading to Bolzano?
Think not once or twice but 3 times if you think of coming here as a Non-EU overseas student. Find a place/country/university that offers better value for your money and helps you for a better future.
