I have lived all my life in Finland but have lived about 50 km north from Helsinki. The place I call home (and Finland) is a beautiful town called Nurmijärvi and it's in the countryside where people say hello even if they don't know each others so well. But usually pretty much everyone know each other so it's not weard to wave at everyone.
As I turned 19 and had graduated from high school and it was time to apply to a university the only option for me was Helsinki, this way I was near home but able to study.
Helsinki had always felt like a cold place where people are always angry and don't say "thanks" or "please". First weeks were awful as I felt like I was in the wrong place. But I managed and waited for the future and hoped to make friends etc. I'm glad I stayed as during the first courses I got to know other students and started to understand Helsinki more.
