Working as a student - 4 suggestions

Studying and not having to work is all very well, but a bit of extra pocket money has never hurt anyone, has it? Are you in the same position now but don't really know which job to do alongside your studies? Maybe one of these suggestions will inspire you.

Promotional Jobs

Probably one of the most popular job categories among students. You usually don't need any previous experience, you can organise your working hours relatively freely, get to know new people quickly and have variety. However, the term "promotional job" is very broad, not all promotional jobs are the same. The following jobs often fall under this term as well:

  • Event workers
  • Exhibition staff
  • Fundraising staff
  • Hostess

Depending on the company and the activity, the wage here in Austria is between €8-15. They are often looking for employees on the weekends or evenings - also ideal for students.

Catering jobs

Many students have worked in the catering industry once in their lives, whether in a restaurant, cafe or for a catering company. Working in the catering industry is not easy, but you can learn a lot. In such a job, you must get used to team work, stress resistance and speed. You also learn what it means to always be friendly and helpful. Many companies highly value catering jobs as candidates have always been challenged in this role.

Here the student wage varies a lot, depending how much or whether you get tipped. But the basic wage here is roughly between 8 and 12 euro.

Retailjobs

Are you interested in fashion, technology or another product group? Have you already thought about working in sales on the side? Many retailers are always looking for students to work part-time. Often this also means that you will get employee discount and who doesn't want that?; )

In sales you are usually employed via a collective contract.

Internships

Many students need to do an internship during their studies, but some do not get this chance. We advise you - do one anyway! Even if you lose a semester, it is pure life experience and improves your resume tremendously. Additionally you find out very quickly whether the field that you are doing your internship in is suitable for you.

Regarding payment - this especially varies a lot with internships, with some you will earn relatively good money, others are unpaid.
