What to do in a small town?

What on earth is there to do in such a small town such as Hofn? I was quite worried about this before I arrived. I knew it would be different - trying to find things to do and to meet people. There wouldn't be the usual city things to keep me entertained and not as many events being hosted by the city and other players within it.

My boyfriend knows I used to be in a choir (nearly a decade ago - eek!) and that I quite enjoyed it. I mentioned several times in Oslo how much I missed singing in a choir - to me it's very relaxing. It's probably because of the controlled breathing. I never had time to join a choir in Oslo... not to mention I didn't know where to go to join a choir.

Here in Hofn there are two choirs to join - both women's choirs. One is organized by the local church and the other is organized by the community. My boyfriend knows some ladies who he works with are in the choir, so he hooked me up with some information about joining it through them.

For the past month, I've been attending the rehearsals twice a week, two hours each time. It's made me realize how much I've missed it all these years. I'm happy to finally take some time to do something that I really enjoy.

I was surprised to find that the choir is full of women of all ages! I thought it would be just a bunch of older women, but I was wrong.

We've been working on several songs - some for the upcomming Christmas concert and some for the choir trip to Italy in June. I have A LOT of work to do before the Christmas concert. All of the songs are in Icelandic, so it very hard for me to memorize them all in such a short amout of time. Some of the songs are also sung at a very fast pace and it's hard for me to say the Icelandic works quickly enough. I'll be busy the next couple of weeks!
