Stage Malta

The only way that I would be here in Malta, is with the help and work from the agency ˗ Stage Malta.

They have been incredibly helpful during my time here and also during the application process.

Stage Malta is a company that has worked with Liverpool John Moore’s for quite some time and they have provided students with the opportunity to work abroad in some of Malta’s best companies.

I had almost daily correspondence between myself and the employees at Stage Malta, who were consistently working to ensure that my internship for this summer would become materialised.

I put forward my application in late April, leaving the company a very short amount of time to find me a placement. But, they came out on top, providing me with one of the best internships that I could hope for, at the Times of Malta.

They were always quick to respond to emails and ensure that I had all of the correct documentation and paperwork required to be given the ‘go ahead’.

My trip to Malta would last 9 weeks and consist of me working for 5 weeks in The Times’s journalism department and another 4 weeks in the sales and marketing department. This would allow me to explore more areas of the industry that I may not have been able to do, if I had been allocated another company to work for.

They worked incredibly quickly to have my placement solidified and I received confirmation of this on the 7thof May. Just two weeks after sending my initial application to them.

To be given such opportunity, there is a cost involved. As with any agency, they have agency fees. Stage Malta’s fees however, seemed to be a very reasonable price for the service they offered and with the help of the Erasmus grant, I was able to fund this internship myself.

Once I had paid my deposit, the company then provided numerous emails on what one should expect when arriving to Malta and the things that they have on offer for people visiting the country.

It seems I came at a great time, because the country is in the midst of its Valletta 2018 programme, which sees the European Capital of Culture award being a wide-spread project for Malta – to help it to showcase its rich heritage and grandeur history.

Stage Malta also provided with me with all of the necessary information I would need about finding their office for an arrival meeting, as well as directions to my work place. This cut out a lot of the effort on my part, which made the whole process even simpler.

They even provided me with information on local transport routes and bus cards to help me get around. Providing a break down of the costs for a bus card, they gave me tips on how best to travel in Malta, seen as though there are no train routes or tram services here. (I will be dedicating an entire post to the service in Malta, as it is well… an experience!)

Not only is the company very informative, but they also provide a lot of opportiunties for the students that they look after. They have frequent trips on offer, such as a safari, trip to Gozo and many more amazing opportunities that one can undertake.

I myself have been too busy thus far to undertake this opportunity, as I am always exploring and finding new places of my own to discover.

However, Stage Malta have provided me with all of the necessary tools to do so and the process has been seamless.

Also, it is not a case of when you arrive here they leave you to your own devices.

They check up on you on a weekly basis regarding your work, your house, your stay and any queries that one may have during their time here.

They ask all of those participating in an internship to send a weekly report of the tasks and progress they have undertaken / made during the week and provide any areas of feedback that one may feel is necessary.

The team are also very supportive of the work that one has completed during the week. Whenever I inform them of my successes within having my writing published, the team are always quick to give praise. They are a warm and friendly team who seem to truly care about your progress at your host company and the weekly reports allow one to record all of their progress during their time in Malta.

These weekly reports are then collated by the team, who work with your company to ensure that the reports match your host’s thoughts on your work and your progress.

They also do house checks for you, to make sure that everything in terms of your accommodation is up to standard. Which thus far, it has been.

The only qualm I have, is that one has to pay for the washing machine facilities as well as the air-conditioning in one’s bedroom. Considering how hot Malta is, the company could have provided free air-conditioning for its guests. However, these are smaller minute details.

All in all, the company have provided me with an internship that I will forever be grateful for, as it has given me all of the necessary experience and opportunities to develop my journalistic flair and skillset.

Thank you Stage Malta.
