Hello to all the beautiful readers out there. This time around I want to share some information about a place I go to once a week on average. I am talking about the one and only Emi supermarcket. For all of you who will choose the city of Perugia as an Erasmus destination, maybe on a vacation trip to Perugia or more simply if you are livining in Perugia I think you will find this informations usefull. I am sure that people who love doing their grocerie shoppings in a supermarket will love how Emi supermarket is sorted out. Starting from its location to the varieties of products it provides, Emi supermarket is the place to go to.

What to expect from Emi

Like anyother good supermarket, Emi has a good reputation of being quite organized and providing quality products. Since the first time I went to this supermarket (this was back in 2014 when it had its opening) to this day I have to say that for the most part I leave from this supermarcket as a satisfied customer.

In Emi supermarcket you will find your usual items like : fruits and vegetables, freshly baked bread, packed foods, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, frozen food, kitchen-ware,  beauty products, cleaning products and much more.

What I really appreciete of this supermarket is that it has what we call in italian 'gastronomia' which is basically ready made cooked food ranging from different kinds of baked vegetables to fried chicken, salame, prosciutto, a variety of dairy products like ricotta, mozzarella. One of the huge advantages of having a 'gastronomia' in any local supermarket here in Italy is the possibility to ask for a sandwich: you can choose the kind og bread you want, then you choose whatever you want inside you panino. Often people go for mortadella (which is pork meat so a big let-down to all the vegeterian/vegan readers out there, I am sure you can find something that goes along with your dietary needs) and few slices of cheese for example Provola cheese. This is a great alternative when you don't have time to cook or to sit down and have a propper lunch.

Since they also have an oven they prepare their own pizza, focaccia and so on but also they provide a wide assortments of cakes and sweet pasteries, though I must say that I have never tried one of their desserts.

Why is Emi student friendly ?

This supermarket is the place to be at when in need of some grocery shopping, especially for students attending university studies. The reason why Emi supermarket is student friendly is because it offers a good discount to university students. So if you are a university student try to reach the client service desk and ask for a the Emi fidelty card for university students. This card is free of charge so don't worry about extra payments. The only thing you need to bring with you is your university identity card (also known as 'libretto universitario' in Italian which translates to university booklet). Before they give you your discount card you will be asked to fill-out a form and sing it. The card is valid from the moment you have. So as a student if you do your shopping only on Wednesday you are going to receive a discount of 10% on the total sum of expenses. Though watch out that this discount does not apply to some selected products and for items that are already on promotion sale or discounted.

So from the moment I got my university student discount card I only do my weekly shopping in Wednesday and save a little bit of money. This also helps to stay away from the supermarket during the rest of the days of the week. But sometimes given the fact that Emi supermarket is 100m away from where I live, the temptation to go and do a small shopping is always there, and at times I fall into this trap.

I hope you get to find this supermarket while staying in Perugia and benefit from all the services it provides. It is a good deal for students.

Thank you for reading. Cheers to you all.
