Rainy night = Cinema!

Unfortunately the stunning weather in Cádiz hasn't lasted =( the heavens decided to open and absolutely bucket down, the temperature dropped. So with no beach to sit on all day, we were at a little bit of a loss as to what we should do to entertain ourselves. We spent most of the day organising uni stuff and bank accounts and then we wanted a nice chilled out evening, but not just to sit in our flat on our own. Claire suggested that we check out the cinema in el corte ingles which we found the week before, because most people are doing the CSLM language courses we had to go quite late, which restricted our choice of films. We opened a group chat on facebook and Claire looked up the films that were on at the right times and we narrowed it down to Ted or Step Up which were both on at 10.30pm.

We all met at the bus stop in Plaza de Espana at 9.45pm to give ourselves plenty of time to get to the cinema, buy tickets, popcorn etc. It was a good thing that we arrived early because when we got off the bus at El Corte Ingles the main entrance that we had used in the past was closed. We figured there must be some entrance just for the cinema, so started walking around the building, which is quite big, so it took us a while to eventually find the entrance. We opted for Step Up, because the story was going to be predictable and therefore easy to follow, wheras some of the jokes in Ted may have been lost on us in Spanish. Tickets were €6.50, we tried asking about student discount but didn't really understand the response so just paid what we were asked. Then on to popcorn, I haven't found sweet popcorn here yet, only salty and caramel, some of the others bravely tried these but no-one was impressed.

We settled down for the film and were all surprised by the abrupt start, just like on the TV there was no introduction to the film it simply started, we all thought it was another advert at first! We were waiting for the film asociation certificate or something, but no, straight into the film. As predicted it was a very easy film to follow, plenty of dancing and not so much talking, there was a little confusion over the use of the word 'tio' everyone seemed to call each other 'tio' if they were male, regardless of their relationship to one another. We came out at the end very pleased with ourselves for not getting too confused and after finding the exit - not as easy as it sounds, we caught the bus home. All in all a very good use of a rainy night, perhaps the next time we will try something more challenging.
