Places to have breakfast in Barcelona
Hello everyone, one day later!
In my last post (which was a while ago now) I told you about what places in Barcelona were must-visit locations for anyone who goes to the city, but the truth is that I also discovered that there are cafes/ restaurants where you can enjoy amazing breakfasts in Barcelona.
I want to talk to you about some of these (the ones that I know first-hand) which are worth trying out. They are quite different, so you can adapt them to what you like or what you fancy at the time.
Mama’s – Organic kitchen&café
This business is located in the Calle de Gracia and its entrance gives onto a small street where there are no cars. It is a very chilled local siteand is characterized by its dishes which exclusively use ecological ingredients. On the menu, there are as many sweet options as there are savoury ones, so it is ideal for breakfast or for brunch or even for lunch or going for a snack.
They also offer the option of enjoying the dish of the day which is announced every day on a small chalkboard which is stuck just on the entrance, and they have vegetarian options. Their desserts are delicious.
La desayunería
This cafe-restaurant is situated in the neighbourhood of Sant Antoni and in Comte D'Urgell (I went to this last) which is characterised by offering a wide range of products as well as being varied and healthy. They probably aren't as healthy as some of the others which I have talked about in this blog, but it is perfect for a nice treat; even though the prices are medium to high, the dishes are really big.
It was born with the idea of in some way copying the custom that they have in other countries, of having a big breakfast to have energy for the whole day. For this, they offer really filling breakfasts, and as many local as international ones (such as the mythical savoury breakfasts made up of eggs and bacon). Their menu is really varied and they offer products suitable for vegans and celiacs.
Out of the entire menu, their best product is most definitely the pancakes. This was what we ordered and they gave us three gigantic pancakes, one on top of the other, with melted caramel and different in-season fruits. It was delicious, but honestly, I wasn't able to finish them, despite how much I liked them, because they were really filling.
There are so many options, you can also add chocolate, marmalade, oreos... or if not you can also go for the savoury pancakes. They also offer fresh fruit juices, milkshakes, coffees, fruit salads and toast amongst other things.
Once a week, on Thursdays, they celebrate St Pancake's Day and the price of pancakes is reduced to 3 or 4 euros, depending on whether you just add syrup or if you add other toppings.
Brunch&Cake
There are 5 shops in total around the whole city of Barcelona, although the most well-known one, and the one that we went to, was the one which is located in Calle Enric Granados. As you can see in the photo, its entrance is very distinctive. At least in our case, just from looking at the decoration as much outside as what we saw inside through the window, we felt obliged to enter.
It is characterized by offering a very original menu and for only working with ecological and locally-sourced products. Also, they use 100 per cent ecological coffee in all their shops. To sum up, their philosophy is based on making all of their products by hand and slowly.
We tried some bowls of fruits and vegetables which were really good, and they were quite big. They also offered things ranging from salmon burgers with ice-cream or chicken sandwiches with nachos and vegetables, to apple muffins or granola or cupcakes. To drink, they offer different flavoured smoothies like tropical, or a banana and chocolate one.
Saying that, this is probably the most expensive one out of all of the places that I have talked about in this post, but it is worth going to if you are interested in enjoying high quality and healthy products in a really chilled and pretty place. It is nice for a treat.
Giovanni’s
Finally, I want to talk to you about this ice-cream shop where they also have really delicious waffles and crepes. The prices aren't too expensive.
Maybe it is a bit much to start the day by eating one of these waffles or crepes, but they are perfect to have in the middle of the afternoon or if you fancy something sweet. There are several of these ice-cream shops across the city, we went to the one at Placa del Pi and honestly, it is quite small, with only four of five tables to sit down at.
And that is all for now! I'm sure that now at least one of you are feeling hungry.
And thank you once again for reading!
