How times flies, rather quickly for a relative concept and here I am, nearly a week since the day I passed the dreadful security check at the airport of Thessaloniki, the day I said my goodbyes to family, friends and  had a wonderful goodbye μπουγάτσα as soon as I reached Thessaloniki. My destination being Cologne (or Köln for accuracy’s sake) I had to fly there through Berlin, which in the end of the day was a rather unnecessary connection flight to a relatively exhausting trip.In this week I’ve been more of a tourist than I’ve ever been in my whole life, always while drinking Kolsch and eating pretzels or curry wurst.Don’t get me started on how many pictures I took of the city and things that the locals just pass uninterested.

It only took me about an hour to reach Cologne, where I got a really warm welcome from Kim, an Erasmus friend I met In Scotland about a year ago.She guided me around the underground or U-bahn, until the hostel where I was staying for the first couple of days, where we met with Julie, a French girl I’ve been corresponding with and the three of us went out for a proper dinner.Next morning Kim and a friend of hers gave us a proper tour around the city at the not so very touristy parts of Cologne, which I enjoyed immensely. After returning back to the hostel, we met Lana a cheerful young traveller from Aschaffenburg and her friend and we shared dinner while chatting about travels and other stuff, the rest of the hostel residents soon joined us.

It was on the morning after that we departed for Bonn, there we met with Dimitra a fellow Greek girl that I have also been corresponding with and the three of us moved to the airbnb we decided to share, before we moved to a permanent place. Our week together has been characterised by explorations around the town, good films, good food, pre-Erasmus excitement and English/Greek/French/German tandems.

Speaking about town explorations and  friends, I couldn’t possibly leave out the awesome city-center tour, given by my other Erasmus friend Gereon, who I also met during my first year in Scotland.I learned things such as where Beethoven was born as well as less well, known touristy information like where you can find the underground clubs in Bonn, that you can access without wearing high-heels.Yay!

The excitement is still quite  intense though, as this Monday starts the welcoming week, where we meet with other Erasmus students and learn important information about living in the NRW. Can’t wait to see what’s next!
