It started with "Hello"

Blog: Seeing Bilbao through American Eyes
Tags: General

Moving to Bilbao was one of the easiest things I have ever done in my life.  Why? Well  I did it simply for love.  I met the love of my life one year ago and my life was forever changed.

It has definitely been quite an adjustment living in a different country and learning the culture, the language, etc.  Moving from the USA was quite a change for me.  Especially, the time of night people stay up!!! Omg...when I lived in NC, I was an an early bird to bed.  9:30pm was the time I was in bed asleep!  Has married life changed that?  Absolutely, my husband goes to bed at like 12:30 am or 1 am in the morning as I sit in disbelief of what time my cellphone is reading?  He simply tells me with his adorable smirk on his face, "Welcome to Spain."

What I have found is that Spain, is the place to live!!!  Lunch time you get to actually take a lunch.  A real I can chew my food and not gobble it down in 30 minutes or less lunch!!  And guess what else?  You also can take a nap if you want to afterwards.   Now, that's what I am talking about.  They respect nap time for adults.  We did it when we were kids so why stop now.  I like this concept.  They also have so many holidays that I can't even count, but I am not complaining at all.  No, no , no.  Not me!!  What is there not to love about Bilbao, the culture, the people and let's not forget the AMAZING food!!!

One thing you must make sure of when you move to Spain is that you have yourself a plan of action to maintain your weight.  It can quickly get away from you if you are not careful.  The food here is so amazing that the saying, "I am full" doesn't exsist anymore.  Don't even try to say it because the spices and the smells of all the intoxicating foods make it impossible!  So enjoy!! Have a plan that will allow balance.

However, if you are like me and love to explore any and everything, there is so much you can see without having to move or own a car.  You can walk, take an underground train or even ride a bike on beautiful trails and paths to enjoy the beauty of Bilbao.

Little did I know that a simple "Hello" would make my dream of living in Spain a reality.  I've always wanted to be in Spain since I was a little girl.  Now, I am all grown up and living my dream in Bilbao with the most wonderful amazing husband.  Dreams do come true.

Life is good.....
