hello to my little readers
hello to all the people living on this beatiful planet Earth. I send you my greetings from the far north city of Poland, Gdansk. As of today I have started a second blog to make space for the various words of wisdom and incouragement I wanted to spread among my readers, because my principal goal here is to make your life easier by sharing my experience as a student who has been continually changing his residence and also my university throughout my study period. I think it will also be a good way to let you know some perks and tricks you can use when you have to adapt to a new environment.
What are my origins ?
Well I can articulate this answer in so many ways but for now let's just say that I was born and raised in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, where I attended in the same city the Italian school up to the age of nineteen. That same year I had already started to make the preparations to move to Italy and attend the University there. So once I graduated from high school I had more time to finish up with all the formalities and the necessary paperworks which didn't took very long. By the time I had my visa from the italian embassy I went with my father to get the plane ticket and on that same week I remember doing my last shopping and making myself ready for the big moment that would change my life forever.
Everything goes smoothly and I arrived on september 2014 in the eternal city, Rome, from which I had to take the train to go to Perugia where I would stay for a period of three years at the one and only University of Perugia, taking part in the bachelor programme of civil and environmental engineering.
As I was finishing up my third year at the university I really started toput some thought into going abroad again to continue studying (do my last year). This is when the life saver Erasmus programme came in and opened many door ways which I was more than glad to come in and see what they had to offer.
Actual situation
As my destination I choose the city of Gdansk where you can find the University of Technology of Gdansk in which I am enrolled for the moment. In order to make the choosing easier I decided I had to prioritize: first I had considered the language of instruction for the lecture which currently is english and this suists me perfectly, secondly the national language which was very interesting because I have been meaning to learn polish and this seemed to be the best chance to fulfill my desire and last but not least I considered the cost of living for the period of my stay and Poland definitly took the first place with its student friendly transportation offering 50% off for students and fair rent price to stay at the dormitory with other fellow students.
Going abroad for the second time was and continues to be one of the best decisions I made. Specially I had to make myself believe that I was willing to be patient and conscious enough of all the change that was ahead of me. The weather, the food, the people, the atmosphere in the city and the list goes on so in the midst of all this change there really wasn't much that I could hold on to. Right in this moment I must say that the spiritual practice that I had and the growing relationship that I have with God came in hand because I always believe that situations, people, life conditions, they all change but the one thing that I know for sure never changes is God, and his love.
So for all the people out there planning to spend an extended time abroad as Erasmus students and therefore rattling in a new country, I urge you to be grounded and connected to something that is greater than your existence and your current situation: some refer to this greater thing as the force of the universe or as bigger energy, I call it God. Nevertheless it's crucial for us humans to be in contact with our spiritual side not only in difficult moments but it should be a daily practice so we can get to understand this side of our nature and do something with it.
bless up!!
