Halloween in Cádiz

I finally made it back to Cádiz at 6pm, just in time to unpack, wash and be out to meet Kath and Claire, the other girls from Birmingham University, as we had a pastoral meeting with Rosa from Birmingham University. We met her at Café Royalty, and she bought us drinks – on the university! There were also some crisps on the table which were advertised as homemade, but were just really hard. We chatted for a few hours about how we were finding Cádiz, and any problems that we may have had, and Rosa gave us some tips on interesting things that we should visit or do whilst in Cádiz, as she was born here. The meeting was a lot nicer than I thought it was going to be, I was worried that I was going to get a proper grilling in Spanish about what I’ve been up to but it was actually quite enjoyable. During the meal we saw a Halloween procession go past, some people had really gone all out, they banged on the cafés windows, it was all rather entertaining.

The three of us headed back to my house to get changed into our Halloween costumes, due to time restraints I hadn’t made much of an effort! Claire and I were Devils, and Kath was a Bumblebee. Jana, Geo and Alice had gone to a Halloween party advertised on the ESN page, whereas we were headed to Emma’s house for pre-drinks once we were dressed. At Emma’s we had some drinks and a sing-a-long to some good British classics. We then headed off to some bars in the rain, singing through the streets, yes we were quite drunk by this point, doing the British larger lout image proud. We headed for Nahu, however it was so busy that it was almost impossible to get in, so we went straight to M2 instead. In the streets earlier we had seen plenty of small children dressed up for Halloween, but in the clubs there were lots of people who hadn’t dressed up, so at times I felt a bit out of place in my devil horns, quite glad I didn’t go all out!

Drinks were flowing and my memory of the night is very patchy, although I know I did have a great night, the photos are hilarious. At some point we made it to Soumat, not quite sure when or how. Jana was heading home and so I followed her, I was feeling peckish so told everyone I was going home for a sandwich, I wasn’t seen out again! After my sandwich I must have gone to sleep. Some of the rest of the girls headed on to La Punta in what had turned into quite heavy rain and had (from what they can remember) a great night too. The next day we were all feeling more than a little rough, probably as it was easily one of the better nights out I have had so far. So that afternoon we headed to Claire’s for some recovery time watching films and eating Chinese food before packing for Portugal and getting an early night.
