Guidance from the aiport to Hanoi
Arrive in the airport in Hanoi (Noi Bai airport):
There are 2 terminals in Noi Bai airport: terminal 1 and terminal 2.
International Terminal 2
- First Floor Arrivals
- Second Floor Immigration
- It provides various services, shopping, dining, currency exchange, ATMs and transportation options.
- Arrivals and departures at the same floor
Domestic Terminal 1
A free shuttle bus is available for transit passengers connecting between International Terminal 2 and Domestic Terminal 1.

If you are flying from other countries, you will arrive in Terminal 2:
- Follow the signs to the immigration desks
- Give them a big grin
- Go downstairs to the first floor and collect your luggage if you have
- Approach the exit
- Better to exchange money and buy Sim cards when getting to the downtown in Hanoi not in the airport

Money exchange
Vietnamese currency: Vietnam dong (VND).
- VND bills are available in 10 denominations of 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10, 000, 20, 000, 50, 000, 100, 000, 200, 000 and 500, 000 dong.
- In 2003, coins were also introduced in denominations of 200, 500, 1000, 2000 and 5000 dong, although these are rarely seen and they don’t exist anymore.
The exchange rate is fluctuated: 1USD equals to 22, 3000 VND; 1 Euro equals to 22, 500VND.
- Ha Trung Street is well known for exchanging money with good rate
- Banks in Vietnam requires lots of paper to exchange from Vietnam dong to USD, but it is easy to exchange from USD to Vietnam dong
ATMS
- ATMs are available every street in Hanoi. They will accept a selection of credit and bank-cards, including Visa, Mastercard, Maestro or Cirrus and several other
- Limited amount and fee incur of different banks as the table below:
- There are branches of money transfer companies like Western Union, but this is always one of the more expensive ways to get money

Hanoi is a beautiful city with interesting history, culture, friendly people and nice food... but you still should be attentive with following when travelling in Hanoi.
How to avoid street risks
- Do not walk alone after 23:00
- Do not bring passport outside
- Do not wear too much jewelry on the street
- Keep your phone, wallet…carefully
- Put your bags in front at crowed areas.
- Should not use cell phone on the street.
How to get away from pushy vendor
- Do not touch anything if you dislike.
- Do not talk too much to them
- Keep walking away
How to bargain in markets/ streets
- Check the item(s) carefully before buying
- Ask for the rate
- Say 50% of what they say, then negotiate for the best you can
How to treat with scam taxi drivers
- Do not pay anything if you feel so much
- Check and remember the taxi brand name and taxi number
- Call back hotel reception for help or even local people if you do not have phone
Booking tour
- Be careful with some travel agencies on the streets or online booking, you may get much lower value or have to pay more.
