Blog: Life in Rural Southeastern Iceland
Tags: General

I've just embarked on my first adventure after my Erasmus Mundus experience. About a month ago I moved to Höfn, Iceland! Never in my life did I ever imagine I would live in such a small and isolated community. I grew up in the suburbs and have always lived in highly populated areas. In fact, the smallest and most isolated city I've ever lived in (until now) was Flagstaff, Arizona, USA that had a population of 60,000 and was a three hour drive to the heart of Phoenix - and that was difficult for me. The population of Höfn is only 1,900.

Where is Höfn?

Höfn is located in southeastern Iceland - a good seven hour drive from the capital of Iceland - Reykjavik. The sea borders this town and you have the most magnificent view of the largest glacier in Europe - Vatnajökull - right near the town center.

So how did I end up here?

The short story - in August of this year, my boyfriend of three years got a job teaching English at the local junior college. I wasn't ready to return to my home country or leave my boyfriend and I was promised a part-time job upon arrival, so I followed my heart to this strange new place.

I hope you will follow me as I tell about my life in this new and beautiful place and my adventures along the way.
