Cumpleaños Feliz Emma!

The Third Birthday of the year so far, more excuses to go out and have a good time, Emma’s 21stBirthday! It also coincided with an ESN event at Soumat, ‘Red Hot Chilli Party’, so we decided to combine the two. We had been sneakily buying presents and a card for the past couple of days and headed over to Hannah and Sophie’s house behind the Cathedral for pre-drinks on their roof terrace. Their terrace was lovely! It was huge and there was plenty of space to sit and lots of chairs, although the light by the table didn’t work so we all ended up sitting on some cushioned floor instead, which was just as good. We were originally going to play some drinking games, but that died a death pretty quickly, ‘I have never’ is not exactly a great game to play if you are me. Instead Geo put some music on and we chatted away. It was soon midnight, and that can only mean one thing, cake and presents, or to be precise a big plate full of Jaffa cakes with candles stuck into them and presents. Emma seemed to enjoy them which was really nice, even if after our awful rendition of ‘Cumpleanos Feliz’ a neighbour poked his head out of a window to complain, you would think that after all of the birthdays that we have celebrated we would be able to sing it by now.

After a couple more drinks we decided it was time to move on, we headed to Nahu, where Emma had been promised free shots for her and her friends, I’m not sure that these ever materialised? Nahu was pretty busy as ever, we grabbed a drink and headed to the dance floor, the guy that had accompanied us (forgotten his name – ooops, a friend of Hannahs) immediately decided that we all needed to stand on the chairs at the side of the dance floor, very entertaining especially when we took it in turns standing on the wobbly table. As ever the music was good in Nahu, they even played ‘Uptown Girl’ which was particularly pleasing for Emma, not sure that everyone else in the club enjoyed it quite so much with us howling along. After a few drinks in Nahu we decided that it was perhaps time to move on to Soumat where the Red Hot Chilli Party was kicking off, we got slightly distracted on the way by a dog, we stopped a while to pet and fuss it – most of us have dogs at home and miss them ridiculous amounts. I certainly do, I keep getting my mum to put my dog Bramble on Skype so I can talk to him, he gets really confused and tries to find me behind the iPad, what a cutie!

Some of us had worn red as instructed on the Facebook event, but it didn’t really seem to matter. When we got to Soumat I was relieved to see that it was not as rammed as last time, fingers crossed for it being a bit cooler inside! We headed straight to the bar, which was actually accessible this time and managed to secure ourselves some drinks, the strange man who just dances behind the bar and makes weird cocktails in water pistols was there again. We headed to the back room of Soumat which was practically deserted and beautifully air conditioned and had a dance and a drink. The table football was too tempting so we had to have a go, before we knew it 3am was looming, a couple of us stepped outside for a bit of air, a guy from ESN offered us some shots and of course we accepted! We got ourselves a wristband that got us entry into the club that ESN were heading to after – how we had forgotten to do this before I do not know. The club ‘Anfiteatro’ was advertised as the biggest club in Cádiz (finally somewhere bigger than our lounge!), so we were excited to check it out, apparently they usually charge for entry but with the wristbands it was free. We headed back to the lovely air con and made sure everyone had a wristband, Soumat seemed to be packing up for the night so we headed outside.

By this time I was getting quite peckish, it was kebab o’clock, luckily the ESN guy (Alvaro) was on hand to offer us some lollipops to sustain us, not quite a kebab but it was good. We headed off towards La Punta, Jana and I had a little sing on the way there, some Blind Guardian followed by Nightwish and managed to lose most of the group. We headed to Anfiteatro as we figured everyone would end up there eventually, we were right, Claire, Alice and Geo were there too. The place was indeed a lot bigger than anywhere else in Cádiz which was nice to see. Unfortunately the music wasn’t quite to my liking, I’ve been suffering from severe rock and metal withdrawal symptoms, I need a good pit to sort me out, so was a bit of a Grinch when confronted with less than inspiring club music. The club filled up and it was an OK time, the DJ seemed obsessed with mixing two songs together, one of them was usually LMFAO. We headed out after a while, Emma and some of the others headed home, I wanted to go but Geo and Alice persuaded me to stay, my mistake!

We went to Aki Te Quiero for a while where the music was better for a dance but predictable as usual, we had some shots, but soon Alice decided we should head back to Anfiteatro, we went along, I’m not quite sure why I went, was feeling a bit past grumpy and very bored. Alice and Geo were enjoying it though so I went along, the music seemed to have improved a bit when we got back, we found some ESN people and had a dance with them, they entertained everyone by creating a game of limbo with the ESN flag. At around half 5 I gave up on staying out and took my leave to head home, on the way I bumped into a guy and we had a nice chat, he walked me home and wanted to go out for some more drinks from there, but I just wanted to get in and have a shower and eat something. We agreed that perhaps I would see him out on Saturday and he headed off, I went upstairs and due to extreme laziness ate a carrot, it was the only thing I didn’t need to cook! All in all a great start to the night that slowly declined once we reached La Punta, Emma had a good time though which is what mattered the most, we are off to a Chinese restaurant tonight for more celebrations, can’t wait! My main conclusion to draw from the night – I NEED to find a rock/metal pub/bar/club before I go a bit crazy.
