The fist month of my Erasmus year in Germany is over,I must admit it has been a very pleasant one. The excitement of the first week is slightly quelled and it is slowly but steadily being replaced by a comfortable familiarity with both the city and the people. Now the streets of Bonn are more than addresses that one tries to find in hurry, out of fear of missing an event, you immediately know how to get somewhere and what’s going on where. The people are starting to be more than familiar faces you met in the welcome week, the more you interact with them and the more you learn about them. Even the haribo tastes different now,it doesn’t taste like “I am in Bonn and I tried the original haribo” good anymore but “I’ve had so much it starting to become familiar” kind of good.I guess our trip to the haribo shop in Bad Godesberg had something to do with this.

While it is a month already, I am still in my second academic week and the lectures proved to be delightfully enjoyable.I really like going to the university, as it’s main building, where i have the majority of my courses, is a sight for sore eyes.Just look at this beauty!wp_001777.jpg?w=748

The parties are great, mainly because they are frequent they’re abundant in fun-loving people and the atmosphere is always filled with enthusiasm and joy. They are so numerous and all over the place, that I would need a separate entry for each one of them.I don’t know if this is just the beginning of the semester, or whether it will be like this during the whole academic year, but there is always something happening and it’s great! Another thing that I learned about entertainment in Germany is that if you go to a karaoke party fit’s likely that almost everyone will sing, things such as shyness rarely get in the way.Although it is fair to admit that a couple of beers always help, they are not necessarily needed.Generally, people prefer to sing the most fun, cheerful kind of songs, which is to be expected but you can also hear a lot classics during a typical karaoke session and there will always be someone singing wonderwall. A warning, if you’re not familiar with “99 luftballons” by Nena already, this song will get into your head and will remain there for a couple of days, regardless of your level of German.

To make the entry more festive, it is crucial to mention last night’s Halloween party, which was quite big and took place in much beloved Köln. Me and a large group of Erasmus pals decided to celebrate the All hallows eve by first participating in big  zombie parade in around the centre of also beloved Bonn. The effort some people put into their costumes was phenomenal, one woman was literally ‘floating’ whist in her gory wedding dress and grotesque makeup. The parade was unusually fun, although my pals and I were not dressed up as zombies, we managed to fit in, in a rather odd fashion.Later on, we took a train to Cologne and attended the Halloween party organised by the ESN. It was good fun and almost everyone was dressed up or had scary makeup on, which was quite refreshing.

Now about the travelling part, as the tittle suggest I couldn’t leave out my trip to Paris, which was a very interesting experience.I must admit I’m quite glad of how convenient Germany’s location is, you can go almost everywhere by car.And so I did.I got to visit Paris’ most famous monuments and even made a new friend, Leeandra, with whom I basically walked all over the city for the whole day, refusing to take the subway and miss the amazing scenery. It was a long walk but a great one thanks to her.Although I must take something out of my chest, the best Crepe I’ve ever had is and will always be a Greek one and Paris didn’t really change that. For starters they’re twice as big.But this is again my personal opinion.

Erasmus is like a trip, where enjoying it is  as important as making it to the destination and with November now being here, there are even more things coming up.
