5 Reasons to study 3D animation and visual effects
So you're interested in studying animation, right? We're not surprised! And that's because 3D animation is one of the fastest growing sectors with some of the best job prospects on the market. For that reason, we've got a selection of reasons why you should study 3D animation and visual effects. Let's take a look!
First of all, what is 3D animation?
It's only natural that you would be interested in immersing yourself in a world as creative as 3D animation and design, who wouldn't want to unleash their imagination and live to create animated characters and settings? Having said that, are you sure about what 3D animation is and what it's for?
Animation isn't just giving life to inanimate objects. In the case of 3D animation, and unlike 2D animation, it gives life to objects so that they can move in a three-dimensional space. The impression of movement is created through a series of still 3D sequences.
The story of 3D animation has evolved in line with technology. This type of animation was created by the founder of Pixar Studios, Ed Catmull, in 1972, when they started to realise the potential of computers in creating designs and animations that would be later used in the first 3D films. From there, countless design and 3D animation programmes were developed and improved and nowadays the software is so advanced that sometimes it can be difficult to even distinguish between a 3D animation and a real frame of film. Incredible, right?
1. Nowadays visual effects are are essential
You just have to look at the catalogue of our favourite streaming services (Netflix, HBO, Prime, Disney+... ), visit the official website of the new technological gadget or switch on our console to play a game: wherever we look, animation and visual effects are present in all aspects of our lives. If this is the case in 2021, imagine the impact of 3D animation in a few years! Technological development will not only make job roles that nowadays don't even exist, but also that visual effects will be much more present than we can imagine.
2. Animation industry is in growth
It's a fact that 2D and 3D animation is in its best moment: just in 2020 alone this industry registered worldwide earnings of 260 000 million dollars. Next to nothing! This figure grew especially with the creation of streaming platforms and continues to rise each year.
In the case of Netflix, for example, the jump towards huge animation productions was made with the film Klaus, made by the Spanish studio the SPA, which says a lot about the quality that there is in the animation sector and the animation studios in Spain. Can you imagine working in a team nominated for an Oscar for the best visual effects? Incredible!
You're possibly thinking that animation is limited to kids films, but this is because you haven't been told about all the possibilities! Do you recognise Big Mouth or Love, Death and Robots? Animated content for all audiences is becoming more and more popular, and these hits are evidence enough that animation isn't just for the youngest of us.
