Why are International relations relevant to everyone? I am studying IR because I consider it to be a ver relevant field in the world.

The importance of International Relations is clear when we look at the changes that society has been experimenting during last centuries. In fact, all the technological changes have created a smaller world where communication between different nations is much faster. Therefore, International Relations play a key role in these communication processes.  Actually, a misunderstanding can lead to a bad consequence, as well as the good relations created can end up being beneficial. IR are the link between the countries that are everyday closer to each other, they are also a key to solve all the disagreements between countries that may occur when they do not share the same viewpoints and what is even more important, they play the primary role for reaching peace worldwide. In my opinion, IR has to look for equilibrium between countries that do not share the same opinion and must look for a way that benefits both parts and reaches the same objective without negatively affecting the citizens of the world. Furthermore, IR can also help reduce poverty, differences and inequalities. Consequently, how those relationships and problems are managed is in charge of the good management of International Relations. However, there is an existing and wider gap between those experts that are practisers in IR and the theorists of the field what makes this management less easy; therefore, there is much to be improved.

Some authors claim that a theoretical viewpoint constitutes a basis for the practical knowledge. Thus, policy makers must have a basic theoretical knowledge to be able to develop their work. Anyways, this does not mean that the theory has to be deeply known, in fact, plasticisers must know what is important for their field. According to other authors, all the practical people within the IR have to inevitably know the theory of the field they are working on, in other words, they must select what is important to the practice.

Nevertheless, it is necessary not to focus only in the knowledge of the theory. In fact, according to some authors, IR is too focused on theory and its relevance rather than proving that knowledge through empirical research. Therefore, all the experts of the field should be able to recognize the relevance of the practical IR because both theory and practice are relevant, but none of them has to be the basis without having proved the other. Actually, for the moment, theory has been more widely used for IR, but I agree with Reus when he says that International Relations need a reorientation in their practice, what is to say, a greater emphasis on practice.

From my point of view, we can never forget that IR involves almost all the aspects of our society what makes it important to have a clear focus when it comes to study it. The emphasis should not only be in the theory of IR, it should also base the knowledge in the practice and research so that both of the sides complement each other so as to have a richer and therefore easier way of managing IR. The understanding of International relations in all its aspects will make the management successful.
