I am sure that those of you who have been erasmus students or are erasmus students right now, have had, at one point or another, dealt with a bad hangover.

  • Well, I think that the first thing that comes to your mind is coffee. However, last year I learned that this is not true! Some friends told me and I read about it to confirm that information. They were right: coffee may “wake you up”, but caffeine will dehydrate your body even more, which is the exact opposite of what you're trying to do while being hangover. So, drink water instead. The owner of a cafe in Hydra once told me that you should drink lots of water the day after being drunk, but there's a trick: drink water slowly. Sip by sip and not all at once, no matter how thirsty you might feel. If you drink a whole glass of water at once, your stomach might get worse.

  • Another cure for hangover is ginger! If you have some, make a ginger tea and drink it slowly. It will help your headache and, eventually, you'll get better.

  • Drink freshly squeezed juice -do not buy one from the supermarket, because all its consevatives might as well make you feel worse. And, as I've said before: drink it slowly.

  • Also, many people drink energy drinks the next day. Personally, I simply can't have them, their taste is weird but, if you can, it does work.

  • What about food? I know that this might seem as a terrible idea after a bad hangover, but you're gonna have to eat at some point. Prefer plain food, like rice, a cheese and ham sandwich or some toasted bread if the rest make you wanna throw up.

  • Another trick that they've shared with me, although I haven't tried it yet (thankfully, I don't have a hangover that frequently to use all those tips!) is honey! Honey is a great product and I will write more about it in the future, but, regarding the hangover: a little spoonful of honey or honey spread in bread can help reduce the levels of alcohol in your blood.

  • Many people also use tea with lemon, but I just can't have any lemon during a hangover. Remember, all those tips work for some people, but you've got to search for one that can make YOU feel better.

  • Put some eyes on your face. It will calm you down.

  • I hope those tips will make you feel better. Remember your limits while drinking and never drink and drive.
