Sledging away

Alta is famous for its dogsledding event the Finnmark Race (Finnmarksloypet). And when learning more about the culture behind it, you will want to practice dogsledding as well. Husky dogs are mostly used for dogsledding. There are different types of huskies, from greenland to antarctic huskies. All huskies have their own features, which come from different types of breedings. They will be bread in a way, that the best features will come out, so fast combined with strong etc. Quite interesting. All dogs are kept in little houses in pairs of two. They will be put together depending on which two dogs the dog mushers think that will work the best together. Being a dog musher is quite interesting and no education is needed, only knowledge of dogs and how to treat them. You can go dogsledding in summer and winter, depending on the weather conditions. It cannot be too warm, since the huskies are used to cold conditions. In summer they will use carts with wheels to train the dogs, in winter they will use the sledges. We went dogsledding with the sleds, a team of 6 dogs in total ran in front of us as we sledged through the woods and over a lake. The dogs are so enthusiastic and strong, its unreal! The couple in front of us fell, because of the speed and the strenght of the dogs. Luckily they did not hurt themselves. Afterwards there was room to cuddle with the dogs and to learn more from the mushers about dogsledding.

Cuddles everywhere

However, even if you dont want to sledge, you can still cuddle with them whenever you want. My friends organized a trip for me to go cuddling with the dogs in a dogyard once. We cuddled with the puppers, the normal doggos and the oldies. It is so much fun and they genuinly love it. They are so excited when someone enteres the yard and comes there for them. So whenever you are feeling lonely, this is a perfect solution. If you like dogs ofcourse!
