Sales in England
I’m sure that everywhere in the world has sales, but I’m not sure that they are such a big issue as they are in England, every year on Boxing Day there are reports on the news about the crazy queues and mad dashes in shops as they open their doors. I am not quite sure why, but for many people the Boxing Day sale frenzy has become an integral part of their Christmas traditions. If you are feeling up for it then get yourself down to your local large shopping centre, if you are around Birmingham then head to the Bullring, from around 5am there will be people queuing outside desperate to bag the best bargains. It is quite the spectacle. The sales will go on until around mid-January, so you probably won’t miss out on much if you wait. Just don’t bother going into Next in the afternoon on Boxing Day as it will be practically empty, their sale is always really popular, and in my opinion the most organised, at the start of the day all matching items are grouped together and in the right size order, which is a real novelty for sales.
But of course you don’t have to fight your way through the crowds to get a bargain, most places now offer an online buy and collect service. Last Year I did most of my sales shopping online on Christmas Day itself then dropped into store a few days later to collect it all after watching everyone else on television battle it out in the stores.
