Hi guys,

I would like to share my experience about Milan and the transportation options around the city.

When I first arrived there, I had no idea where to buy a ticket for a bus/train/tram or even the fastest way how to get to my apartment. Public transport in Milan is quite difficult to understand if you are from abroad. The only place where you can buy a ticket for tram or bus is a small shop called Tabacconists. They have a lot of these places around the city where they mostly sell cigarettes but also tickets for public transport. Keep it in mind if you need one!

Moreover, I would suggest you to travel around the city by metro or tram which is the fastes way to get from one place to another. In the mornings there is always traffics, and it can take a while to get to your Uni or internship place, depending where you have to be.

If you have to stay in Milan for few months, I would suggest you to make a public transport card for students which is the cheapest way to move around the city. The only thing, what you need to do, is to get a ''passport'' picture and go to the biggest train stations where you can find an office of public transport. There you can make your card with assistance help.

It is worth to mention that the controller in public transports is not offen seen but they can be there time to time. Usually they stand near to the city center in just few bus/tram stops.

I hope this helped you to better understand the public transport situation in Milan.
