Places to study or practice Italian for free in Italy

Ciao! a tutti! I hope you are all well. There are many students that arrive in Italy without knowing any Italian or are at at intermediate level as I am. For those of you that would like to know where you can study and practice Italian in Italy for free, here are three options to get the most out of it.

1. Centro Linguistico de Ateneo (CLA):

The first option is at the Bologna University, if you are a university student. You can do the first Italian class for free. This is only for first year students, because assuming you want to study Italian in your second year in Italy, you will not be able to and you will need to pay a monthly fee of 200 euros.

I came with a certain level in Italian and was placed at a B1 level. To be honest, I was unable to start the classes as they clashed with the classes for my Masters degree in English. What I can tell you is that the book costs about 20 euros and if you are starting with a basic level, there will be both online and face-to-face sessions.

  • For more information on this, visit the University's website www.cla.unibo.it

I am attaching the pictures I have taken of the sheets I was given at the time so that you know more detail about the topics covered in the CLA.

2.Casa de la Intercultura:

The second option is where I am currently studying which is La casa de la intercultura (the intercultural house) located at Via Toni 14. Here it is free for all levels and the only things you need to buy are the books that cost about 5 euros.

The classes are twice a week and in my case, I was lucky to get a good teacher. If you are also having the problem of the classes clashing with your university course, keep this option in mind.

I go to my classes twice a week from 14:30 to 16:00. I have attached a photo of the classroom. Most of the people are from Eastern Europe:

3. Language Exchange Couchsurfing:

The third option is the Couchsurfing events that are usually in the Jammin Hostel located in via derna, near the sea. These meetings are not so frequent and are only held from time to time. In this "language exchange", you can practice your Italian, Russian, and teach Spanish. This is a good opportunity to meet friends that are not in your class and also live in Rimini.

  • For further information on this last option, you can visit the group's Facebook page and join them to receive updates: www.facebook.com/groups/riminilanguageexchange/?fref=ts

I hope you have found some of these options helpful and that you will take them into account on your arrival in Rimini in the beautiful Italy. Ciao!
