After having numerous lectures about the possibilities for minors in Maastricht I decided to apply for the exchange. I first went to the information lecture where I learned about the different University that we could go to. I had a look at all of them again once I got home. We had the possibility to go to Oxford, Leeds, Vienna, Barcelona, Moscow and a few more. I looked at the different courses that were offered in each university. With some this was very hard to find out because their websites were unclear. Often I was only able to find the undergraduate programs but not the separate courses.

We need to get a total of 30 ECTS to finish the 6th semester. Some universities had courses with 7. 5 credits some with 15 and some even with 3. The courses that were most interesting for me were in Leeds, Oxford and Dublin.

Leeds:

  • Sustainable Development, Media & the Public Sphere
  • Tourism Marketing Communications
  • Tourism Destination & the Creative Industry
  • Event Marketing, International Tourism
  • Globalisation & Development
  • Tourism & the Media

Oxford:

  • Festival & Cultural Events Management
  • Food, Drink and Culture
  • Environmentally Sustainable Business
  • Developing and Planning Events

Dublin:

  • Cultural Tourism in Europe
  • Business Tourism
  • Tourism Studies
  • Tourism eMarketing
  • Tourism Destinations
  • Transport Management
  • Event Management
  • Leisure Tourism
  • Sustainable Tourism

I then researched the cities and looked at other people's reports about their experiences. In the end I came to the conclusion that Dublin will be my first choice. Leeds was my second and Oxford my third.

Once I had been accepted by Zuyd I applied for the Erasmus+ grant. The exchange officer helped me with filling out the form. It was quite easy and straight forward. Since I am studying in the Netherlands I am able to use public transport for free in the weekends and with 40 % discount during the week. Since I will not be in the Netherlands for several months I am able to cancel this and get money instead. The exchange officer helped me with this as well.
