Making safety pin bracelet

The introduction

Now I want to tell you about this safety pin bracelet, which is a new thing for me, I mean, I have been making some things like that, however, I haven’t made anything with safety pins and I didn’t really know, how to make it, however, it was not that hard and that’s why I decided to make that bracelet. Well, to tell you the truth, my grandmother asked me to make that kind of bracelet and I can tell you all about it.

How it all started

It was some years ago, when my grandmother told me about this safety pin bracelet. It turned out, that my cousin had made a safety pin bracelet for my another grandmother, which is my grandmother’s sister and she told her about that and they were both amazed by that safety pin bracelet and that’s why my grandmother told me about that. I don’t know, whether she wanted one for herself, too, or she just told me about that, so that I would know, that something like that could be done, because she knew, that I was interested in such stuff and I made some bracelets and necklaces with those beads and stuff.

After she told me about that, I decided to make a safety pin bracelet for her, too, and I bought some safety pins, too, however, I didn’t really know, how to make the bracelet or which colours I would use. And I had these many beads and they were all colours and stuff and I just put those randomly on that sharp-pointed thing and closed the safety pin after that. Well, that was just a simple and not important thing to do, however, it still needed time and effort for that to be made. And I got pretty tired after I did all those 50 safety pins or something like that, because some of those beads couldn’t get on that sharp-pointed thing and then it was pretty tiring to find another bead and get it on that thing. However, I did all of those safety pins and then it was time to assemble them, and I had this red rubber ribbon, which was kind of slim, but it could hold the safety pins well, and I had them on that ribbon on both sides and it was just perfect, if you want to know the truth. And then I had it like that for some years and I didn’t really like it that much that I could give it to my grandmother as a gift and I didn’t have any idea about how to finish it or what could be done about the thing, so that it was in my house, laying there somewhere amongst the beads and though I always remembered about it, I didn’t ever take it to have it modified or finished or whatever.

Making the safety pin bracelet

Well, this year, it was my grandmother’s birthday coming up and I was thinking about giving her some gifts, however, I couldn’t think of anything in particular except for this safety pin bracelet, which was something, that she had told me and I didn’t make it. So that, I thought, that I could finally make that bracelet and finish it and I started looking for some safety pin bracelets online and while I was surfing the internet, I found some really beautiful safety pin bracelets, and there were some of them, that you couldn’t even think, that it was made from safety pins they were so amazing. And then I decided to have that safety pin bracelet in golden and black colours and I kind of had that idea of how it could be done and what kind of beads I would use, however, it is harder than you think to make something that is in your imagination, because there usually are some beads, that they don’t have in the shop or something like that and that’s the case here, too. I mean, when I went there and told her what I wanted to do, she showed me some of them, however, I needed to try it on and see whether it was good for me or not and that everyone should do, because once you have bought it, then it’s not possible to take it back, in most of the cases.

Well, it was kind of a funny situation, because I needed to buy some beads, however, I didn’t really know, whether they would have the right ones or not, and , to be honest, they didn’t really have those exact ones, that I wanted, and I knew, that they wouldn’t have the exact ones, so that’s why I looked at all those things very carefully and the seller was just following me and that makes me so annoyed that time. It makes me not think anymore and I just move around there thinking, when that seller will go away, however, I know, that they won’t go away, so that I just have to accept the fact, that she is going to look at me like that like a hawk or something and that pretty much sucks, though it’s bearable, still, and I try not to tell her anything.

Anyways, I chose some golden ones and black ones and some things like marble or whatever and I didn’t know, whether they would be enough or not and I thought, that going home and having not enough of those beads and then going back to that shop again would be just stupid, so that, I had all the things, that I needed there at that moment and I decided to sit there on the stairs and make the bracelet there, and if I needed something for my bracelet, I would easily go into that shop and buy whatever I needed. That was a great plan, and I started preparing the bracelet.

First of all, I had to take those old beads out from the safety pins and as much as it was kind of easy, the safety pins were plenty and it got me kind of tired, you know, and well, at the same time I tried to put some new beads on them and it got kind of messed up, because I had about 50 safety pins there and I needed to empty all of them and then add the newly bought beads on them.

So , it was kind of time consuming and tiring process and then I just wished, htat I would finish it soon, however, it didn’t really seemed to end. And I had to think of some combinations about those things, I mean, I wanted the bracelet to be lovely and beautiful and I couldn’t just have those beads on the safety pins randomly added.

Soon, after some time , I had those safety pins finished and I needed something to hold them together. And I wanted that to be a rubber band, so that it would stretch and get shorter when having it on the wrist. I had that red rubber band and I didn’t like it on that safety pin bracelet anymore, so that I decied to buy a black one just like that. Getting those safety pins on that rubber band was pretty difficult, too, because those safety pin holes were not that large. Well, I had decided , that I would have those safety pins on the rubber band in different positions and there would be one bead between them, and having those beads on the rubber band was not that easy because of their small holes, too, and that’s what got me like crazy, if you want to know the truth. I was kind of struggling there and it would have been better, if I had a needle or something to have that rubber band on and then it would be easier to have those beads and safety pins on that rubber band, I guess.

When I had one side prepared somehow, it was the other side of the bracelet that was left to be on the rubber band and, well, I had almost everything done and I thought, that I would go home and finish it there, because it was pretty tiring sitting on the stairs doing some things, that required some time and so on.

The seller was pretty interested in my bracelet and she would ask me how I was doing and I showed her the last shape of it and she was kind of surprised, how I did it and she really liked it. And I liked it, too, though it was not yet finished.

When I got home, I was very tired, however, then we were going to my grandmother’s on her birthday party and I needed that bracelet for that, so that I took all my strength and took a needle, that would help me get the safety pins and those beads easily on the rubber band. It was not that easy as I thought, that it would be, because that rubber band was still kind of thick for the beads, however, sooner or later somehow I managed to have all those safety pins and beads on the rubber band and it just needed to be tied together. I just got a regular tie and it was not visible from anywhere and so that the safety pin bracelet was done and I could have it gifted to my grandmother and I hoped, that she would like it.

Well, when we got to my grandmother’s, it was a great moment, however, there were too many people and I was wondering how I would give her my bracelet, and then finally somehow I gave it to her and told her, that it was not bought somewhere, but that I had made it especially for her and she was pretty happy about it and I could see, that she was pleased, though I don’t think, that it would have been practical to have that bracelet on your wrist all the time, I don’t know, it’s just my thought and, perhaps, it’s even more practical than the other heavy bracelets, that people use to buy and wear them on special occasions, or even at work or something like that. I just can’t handle heavy things and I always try to have something light and easy in everything, if you want to know the truth.

Anyways, that was something about my safety pin bracelet and that was the very first safety pin bracelet, that I made, so that it was pretty important for me to see my grandmother’s reaction to this, because, that way I would understand, whether it was worth bothering or not and, well, people liked it and my grandmother liked it, too, so that it really was worth making and if you want to make something like this for someone , you can have it done like this. Or you can choose any kind of beads to have on your safety pin bracelet and it will look just great, though I wouldn’t recommend just one size beads, because it will be boring to look at it that way. I had it like that, until I decided to have some new beads bought and prepared the safety pin bracelet that way and though I had some colourful beads on those safety pins, they were all the same sizes and they didn’t seem to be very beautiful in any way for me, however, some people may like it that way, I don’t know and I can’t say that for sure, but it’s still better, when you have different sized beads and it makes the bracelet look even more luxurious, than it can look with just one sized beads.

So that, anyways, I just wanted to share that experience of making a safety pin bracelet on my own with you all people and I hope, that it was interesting for you and if you didn’t kknow, what to do with some old safety pins and beads or whatever, you can just assemble a safety pin bracelet like this and amaze some people around you and you can even have it as a gift, of course.
