Libraries in Valladolid

Every student arrives at the moment where they have to stop going out and get on top of their studies. It is more difficult for some more than others to concentrate in their own home, so they go to the library to submerge themselves in a much happier studious atmosphere and where there are much fewer distractions. Just going to the library is not enough to pass if you do not make the most of your time and concentrate well. Luckily for those that go to the library, there are lots in Valladolid and they are very good places to study.

I will tell you about some of the libraries in Valladolid that you can visit during exam period and of course, to do work, exercises and spend time looking at specks:

  • The Library of the faculty of Commerce, is the one in which I spend most of my time, since it is my faculty and I don't say it alone but it is quite good. The faculty is located in the Campus Plaza next to Paseo del Prado de la Magdalena. There are two different ones within the same building of the faculty. One, in front of the entrance door and the other in the upper floor. The one below has two floors, it is very comfortable and if you have to reach for a book, it is the most comfortable way since all the shelves are there. The bad thing is that to go up to the second floor you have to go through the first one and if you go on a day there are lots of people, the entry and exit trips will not let you study as much as you would like. If you go on the second floor you will be more protected from the noise. The room on the last floor is a very long room and I would recommend it during winter because in summer is becomes a hot pit. There are lots of tables and a small area that is reserved for group work. Normally, there are not many people there and they usually respect the silence. I prefer to be in the downstairs part which is just by the entrance but you can still taste the colours. It is not open on the weekends but the faculty a classroom to students where they can fit 20 people in it so you can study until 2.
  • Another library that is very good and that is also in the area of the faculties is that of Philosophy and arts, which is located just in front of the Commerce Faculty. This one is a little smaller. It also has two floors but you can access each of them from different places. There is not usually many people there on a daily basis, so to study some days is easily done. It is comfortable and there are few distractions and the upstairs part is quite good for doing group work since it has quite big, round tables. The schedules are similar in all and I think it closes about 8:30 or 9:00.
  • One of the most popular libraries during exam period is the Reina Sofía university library, better known as "El Reina". Open from Monday to Friday and Saturdays mornings. To access it you need to be able to present your University of Valladolid card unlike in the others where you can enter without any problems. It has a number limit with a little more than 200 places and during the exam days it is quite full, especially in the afternoon. On more than one occasion it has happened to me around 2 or 3 and I have not been able to go in because there is no space. A good option if you want to go to the "Reina" is to go early in the morning, they open around 8:00, Going to eat on both of them and keep the card they give you when you enter and then return in the afternoon, and this way you make sure that nobody takes your place. It is a very good place to study, and you can choose between the room below, the corridors of the room above or the rooms of the room above, (also divided into two floors). For me the best area to concentrate are the rooms, since they are something more intimate and you see less people. Another good thing that this library has is that the panels that separate the tables are very high and the person opposite you can not see, you can only become distracted by the person next to you.
  • El Aulario is without a doubt the library with the biggest influx of people in Valladolid. There are always people but during the exam period it is full right to the top and if you do not keep an eye on yourself, you run out of a place quickly. It is a very big building but all of the study area is centred on the second floor. On both sides of the stairs next to the entrance door there are classrooms of different types. There is the hubs that are classrooms with tables that are not very big and has separators on the side and in front and allows you to be totally in your own world. There are other rooms which are very elongated, with large tables where it is somewhat easier to get distracted and from experience, I know that silence is respected less as it is easier to talk to the person next door. Another type of classroom is one that is also very elongated, more or less the same size as the aforementioned. This, instead of chairs, has seats that you can not move from the floor and the same thing happens with the tables. It is much more uncomfortable and like the previous one, it is easy to get distracted while you are studying. The best thing about this library and for what it surely has so much affluence is because of the schedules, since it does not have one and it is always open for those who want to go to study. Whether it's a weekend, a holiday or a new year's eve, it's always open, both in winter and summer, which is great for those who like to study at night. It's next to the Faculty of Economics and if you live in that area, it's a great option.
  • The public library of Castilla y León of Valladolid, located in the Plaza San Nicolás, is quite good, especially if you plan to do research as it has a lot of books, of course free internet access and you can always ask the librarian to help you with a book. It also has book search computers that are in continuous connection with all the public libraries of Castilla y León. If you are going to study, I advise you to go early since being one of the few libraries in that area of Valladolid, it is quickly filled.
  • The Faculty of Law is another option that I recommend and if you live near the centre, it will be very good for you. There is in the Plaza de la Universidad, within the Faculty of Law, and the two or three times that I have been there I have quite like it and although there were enough people, it was very comfortable.

These are the ones I've been in and I imagine there will be many more but at least you already have some places to spend good times studying. Remember that the library is for going to study, it has not made you study and much less to give war. Greetings, I hope I have helped you and good luck with your exams.
