How to write a compare and contrast essay

Essays are the most common form of academic writing, and one of the most important types of essays is compare and contrast essays. Students get to write these in schools and colleges.

These essays require comparison of one dimension of the topic to another. Comparisons are made to draw the conclusions between the two dimensions.

For example:

Object A is larger than Object B.

Situation A has this and this flaws in comparison to situation B.

Contrasts are also made within the different dimensions of the topic. Contrast is the difference that exists between the two situations.

Start with Introduction:

Introduction the face of your essay, so make sure that it is well written that attracts the attention of the reader.

Always use striking sentences for the introduction. Explain the reason for writing the essay. The thesis statement is also really important. Make sure to incorporate it in the first paragraphs.

Briefly explain to the reader that what is your stance on the topic and which dimensions you are planning to explore in the form of comparisons and contrasts.

Body:

The body of the essay is really important. There are a few strategies that you can adopt in compare and contrast essays.

  1. In initial paragraphs compare the various aspects of the topic. And in the next paragraphs state the differences.

  2. You can compare and contrast similar dimension in the same paragraph. And then lead to the second paragraph.

Note that if you get to select the topic, then make sure that you choose a topic that can give you a good amount of material for comparison.

Conclusion:

This is the final and most important stage of essay writing. In this paragraph on basis of all the comparison and contrast that you did in the body, state your analysis that verifies your thesis statement from the introduction paragraph.
