How to pack my Eramus suitcase?

How to pack my Eramus suitcase?

How can you fit a year in a suitcase? or better said, how do you squeeze a year into a suitcase?

One of the major struggles in your head (apart from all the paperwork) is how to transport all your clothes to your new home. For this I bring you a load of advice that has personally helped me.

  • 1. Luggage: depending on your bus, train or plane ticket... that you select, you can carry one type of luggage or another. In my case I have chosen a suitcase which cannot weigh more than 23 kilos and hand luggage than cannot weigh over 10 kilos.

No, it is not enough space to fit clothes and also taking into account that coats and boots take up space... for that, what I have done is I have filled three boxes, each one weighing 10 kilos and I sent the rest of my belongings to my residence.

The web page that I have chosen has been Genei and you can also send packages from Pack Link.

You can compare prices in both pages and you select the day and the hour of which they are going to search for your house and the time of transit.

  • 2. Space in the suitcase: you can't imagine the quantity of space that you can save in a suitcase by rolling your trousers, blouses etc. As footwear will take up the most space in the boxes, I have only fit two pairs of trainers in my suitcase.

NOTE: you can fit underwear, like socks, inside the sport shoes to save space.

I also have fit my hair dryer, hair straighteners, the silk epil, a toiletry kit, my make-up case.

  • 3. Hand bag: as I have said before, you can only carry 10 kilos in your hand luggage, so I have filled it with my essentials. That being my laptop, tablet, eBook and my Erasmus folder. Because no one assures you that your suitcase will not go astray and you have to guard the Erasmus papers like sheets of gold. I also fit my pyjamas in there. :$
  • 4. Boxes: I have filled the boxes with all my jumpers, coats and boots, which are the things that take up the most space. Also, if you want to take bags and computer cases, I advise you to fit them in boxes with more clothes inside them. and all rolled up!
  • 5. No "just in case" items: one of the biggest mistakes is to take up space with just in case tihngs. Also, if you are going to England, forget about taking summer clothes, because no. The more you go to Mediterranean countries or places where you have the certainty that the weather is good, you will not have the same good weather you left in Spain when you go in September.
  • 6. The clothes that you buy there: another factor that you have to take into account is that you will possibly buy more clothes there and in your residency, flat, house or whereever you want to live you are not going to have a really big wardrobe available like you have at home. Therefore, don't worry if you bring too few clothes when you go, during your stay you can fill the spaces in your wardrobe.

I hope that these pieces of advice will be useful. I am telling you all this from my point of view. There is nothing scientifically tested in this blog.

Millions of kisses,

Marta.
