Hikes around town

Below I described some of my most magnificent hikes, some are close to the city, others might require a car or bus.

Komsatoppen

As described earlier, close to our studenthousing Komsa, the Komsa fjord was present. This is also called Komsatoppen and it is a truly beautiful hike. When you have not hiked it before, it is around 15 minutes of a hike from the studenthouse. But on top you have a magnificent view over the fjords and the lake. Breathtaking and worth it!

Skoddevarre

Skoddevarre is a mountain relatively close to Alta. We have cycled here with school and then went camping afterwards. It is truly beautiful and definetely worth the hike. On the hike our teacher surprised us with bringing some dogs along. They lifted their own food, which was quite cool to see that they were trained to do that. On the mountainplateau different lakes exist for fishing, a lot of viewpoints are present. A cabin for sleeping is available if you get the key from the folkehoghshule and a lot of blue berry and cloudberry bushes are in the surroundings. So in short, a lot of possibilities and beautiful surroundings.

Skislope (secret spot)

This was one of the secret spots of our buddies. It is a skislope near school, on hiking distance. You just follow a path into the forrest and it will automatically lead you there. When you have arrived at the skislope, you can even climb it (maybe not 100% safe, but worth it!). The view from the skislope stretches over Alta onto the other side of the Alta River, to the mountain Raipas and more. Definetely worth the short hike.

Lille Komsa (secret spot)

Lille Komsa can be translated as little Komsa. It is a hill in front of actual Komsa. This was another secret spot of our buddies. It is the perfect place to spot northern lights and to make bonfires. Furthermore, it is on the way to Tollevika, the fishing place.

Lerresfjord (camping, secret spot)

Lerresfjord was the last secret spots of my buddies. They took me and some other friends for some camping next to the sea, below the road. When you get down there, you will not hear the road anymore. We camped under the stars on reindeer skin, a different camping experience, which I fell in love with in the end. We even saw some northern lights after dinner at the bonfire.

Ongajok

This was one of the trips we made with class. Ongajok was the place we went shooting with guns. Ongajok has a small holiday village park and UIT has a cabin that students can rent in the area. You just need to hike up the mountain to reach the mountainplateau. This is quite a steep hike which is not possible to do when it is too muddy and slippery. Once on the mountainplateau you get breathtaking views again. There are possibilities for hunting grouse and tarmigans up top.

Losvarkollen

This is a hike I made myself. It is not that far from Alta, so I walked to the mountain Losvarkollen and then climbed it. I did not expect these beautiful views up top. You could see Alta river, Alta self and even Komsa too. A quite small daytrip, which is really recommended. It surprised me how much relaxation and rest it gave to just be out in the nature by yourself and enjoy your surroundings.
