Greatest Gym Around
Tough choice
For those travelling around the world it sometimes gets hard to keep in shape. One of the most common things my exchange semester mates would tell me is that they often gain weight during their experience in another country. One big reason is due to adjusting to the new diet. Another important one is simply trying to find a way to keep in shape. While there are many different options such as joining sports teams, weekend runs and all the sort the one I will be focusing on is the gym. Gyms are one of the most consistent establishments that I have encountered travelling throughout my lifetime. There are quite a few different types of gyms to pick from. Most of them are small scale gyms and the major ones found in Adelaide are Goodlife, Anytime Fitness and the Adelaide University gym. The former is a bit of a pain to find nearby to work out in even though it’s a chain while the latter has only one area.

I used to go to the Adelaide University gym quite often. They used to have a deal which was offered as 90 days’ worth of gym going for the price of 90 dollars. It was an incredible deal that I could not give up. Unfortunately, I ended up going to France on my second semester exchange and returned to find out that this deal has been struck down permanently. I had given them a call to see if they had any special deals and they declined. They said that the deal I had been on had been in place due to new management. They had used this as a strategy to gain more people and hook them into using the gym. It worked well as the gym was only a minutes’ walk away from the main study centre in the Adelaide University campus and many got used to the habit of going before/after studying. The big flaw that put me off was that it was not open 24/7 and had strict closing times on the weekend. This was further exacerbated by the fact that it cost 60AUD per month which was only ten dollars cheaper than the better quality Anytime Fitness. Plus, the gym is the only one in a campus of more than several thousand students.
This meant that it got full pretty fast and would be a pain to work out in. It was simply the amazing deal that kept me here. Nowadays I go to Anytime Fitness gym. This gym has proven time and time again to be the most flexible and the highest quality gym found around. The costs do vary depending on whether you are joining during a deal month or not. For example, they charge a joining fee. Although, this fee is often waived off every third month or so. It’s the most common discount they have. Also, you will have to pay for a key which would allow you to enter the gym (it’s a scannable key tag). After that, you could pay month per month. This would amount to seventy dollars per month. While its ten dollars more expensive than the Adelaide University gym it comes with its benefits.
Firstly, its open twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week. You do not need to have an employee at the gym. You only need to have your key and scan yourself into the gym for any late-night gym sessions. Also, they have promotions of all kinds with free samples and discounts on health-related courses. They also host lessons of different types and have a group of personal trainers who are all very friendly and qualified to get you the dream body you want.
Also, to add, the machines are of high-quality. The gyms provide many different types of machines that are sure to hit every possible muscle group that you hope to train. There are a large number of cardio machines that you could make use of as well ranging from bikes, treadmills, step-machines and more. There are also rooms separated from the main areas dedicated to core exercises, private lessons and more. They also provide showers in each bathroom. They are all kept pretty clean and are often washed properly.

The best part about the gym? Location. There are many locations for Anytime Fitness gyms. After a month of registration, you will have access to all Anytime fitness gyms in the city and around. I often work out next to my house although sometimes I work out in the gym in the centre of the city with my mates or the one closer to city if I'm keen for a quick sesh after or right before university. It is truly something I highly appreciated as I like to move around quite a lot and love to have this flexibility wherever I go. The trainers themselves are also pretty helpful and you could ask them advice on working out. Although, if you’re looking for comprehensive answers then I would highly recommend getting a trainer as there is a limit as to how much one of the employees working there is allowed to help you without compromising a proper trainers job.

To conclude, if you’re looking to get fit or maintain fitness levels with a gym then I recommend Anytime Fitness. However, if you’re looking for something cheaper (but is unfortunately rigid) then you should check out the Adelaide University gym. If you live in North Adelaide, then Goodlife is certainly a place worth checking out. Happy workout!
