Freetown Christiania

I'm sure that you have heard stories about hippies or people, who seek to be free and do whatever they want or live freely without any boundaries and laws and restrictions. Well, many people want to be like that, however , something doesn't let them be who they want to be. Though, some people still achieve their goals and fulfill their wishes and they are free.

The story

So, that's the story about Christiania. As Danes told us, people who wanted to be free went to this small island in Copenhagen, which is nowadays called Christiania and they kind of made their places there and then they had their rules and laws and they wouldn't let the government rule them. Time after time, this zone became a pretty distant one from the overall government there and it became a separate island from all the things around. People live there normally and they have a pretty normal life, I can say, however, I guess, it's still hard to have a nice income and fancy living there. But, those people don't live for "fancy" as I understand it. They just live their free lives and get married and have kids and build houses and do stuff like that. They told us, that they have their school and hospital, however, I don't know anything about that, because I haven't seen them during my visit to Christiania. The place is pretty large and one can not see all the stuff there in just a couple of hours, so that even if we walked too much there, we couldn't really see all of the Christiania at once and, I think, it's not enough to be there for a day to see everything there. It's like, you need to live there for a while to truly feel the Christiania, and it's not just smoking weed or getting high or drinking beer! It's more than that, and if you think, that there's nothing else but weed, it's a pretty foolish thing from you to think about Christiania.

Go to Christiania!

If you are going to go to Copenhagen, my recommendation about which places you can visit is this Christiania. You will just be amazed by everything there. Some people may think , that it's just a place of anarchy or junkies or something like that, however, that's not true and you will see that yourself if you pay a visit there.  You know, there are people, who go and live there, because they wish to and they are pretty much tolerated there. There are some addicts , who just go and live in Christiania and, I guess, they feel better there. And the local residents are pretty fine with that.

Christiania is a place of freedom and things there are just different, which usual people may not really understand. The people in Christiania live their lives and enjoy their freedom and they don't exceed their freedom, if you want to know the truth. They grow plants and build houses and have their own businesses, etc. It's like an island (well, technically, it's located on an island) and everyone is welcome to enter the island as long as they don't take pictures or videos and thing like that. However, there are some places, where it is not prohibited to take pictures and you can take them and have them as your memories. And, trust me, it's worth taking pictures, because everything there is so colourful and fascinating, that it's hard not to get impressed by all those paintings and graffiti and creativity of those people living there in Christiania.

So, if you go to Christiania, you can take the metro and there's this station called Christiania and you can be right there in Christiania without any further walking or something else. However, first, we went to boat trip Copenhagen and then we went to Christiania, so that we walked pretty much, until we got there.
