The John Lennon Wall

Another hidden gem off the beaten track is the John Lennon wall loctated a stones throw away from Charles Bridge. The John Lennon wall is feast for the eyes, a wall brimming with colour inspired by the Beatles. The wall continuously undergoes change and that is the true beauty of this wall. When John Lennon died in 1980 he became a hero for many. Czech artists and alike could express themselves freely in a scoiety where self expression was not allowed. Despite numerous attempts by the communist police to whitewash this wall they could not keep it clean. The messages of peace and hope kept creeping back to the surface. I love coming to the John Wall and reading some of the inspirational quotes and advice. What I love most about the wall is the fact that it is always changing. I couldn't leave Prague without contributing to the John Lennon Wall. I lended a handy piece of advice..

"Reach for the moon, even if you fail, you'll land among the stars."

The Christmas Markets

Nothing is as magical than Christmas time in Prague. Like twinkling stars the Christmas markets in Prague light up the cold night sky. The hustle and bustle at every corner. Winter warmers caress the senses like a juicy glazed pig on a spit. Traditional Czech fleeced slippers and mulled wine at every stall.A choir of Czech school children warms the hearts as the temperatures plummet. Culinary delights are a feast for the eyes, the traditional Czech pastry Trdlínk is a must.It is made from rolled dough, wrapped around a stick, then grilled and topped with sugar and walnut mix. To really get a sense of the magic, one must head for the astronomical clock viewing tower. A bird's eye view of Staroměstské náměstí (Old Town Square) will leave you breathless. The red canopies of stalls lined with twinkling lights, while the gigantic Christmas tree takes centre stage in all it's glory.

Prague's secret gardens

An oasis of calm can be found in the centre of this busy city. If you wander of the beaten cobble, you might find one of Prague's secret gardens. The Franciscan garden in located just off Wenscelas Square and is definately worth a visit. You will feel like you've jumped into the pages Alice and Wonderland in this magical garden. Neat hedges form a little maze for children to explore, arches with blooming roses bow their heads in welcome. Little white benches provide a quiet place to read in the shade. Pretty colourful flowerbeds compete for attention. Another beautiful garden is the walled garden beneath Prague castle (Wallenstein Garden). Peacocks roam freely in this beautiful garden. Ornate statues decorate this garden while the ponds and fountains add to the tranquillity. There is a cool wall/grotto of artifical stalactites and beside it is an aviary. So escape the buzz of the city and press pause. Stop, listen, breathe, awaken your senses

Charles Bridge At Sunrise

So the club might finish at 5 am, no better way to sober up than watching the sun come at Charles Bridge. I can't put into words how beautiful this can be. Sunrise on Charles Bridge has been one of my favourite memories as an Erasmus student in Prague. Have a look at my pictures to get a sense of the magic. Charles bridge at dawn is spectacular! The sky is like a canvas with pink skies revealing themselves at every moment. A beautiful silence descends as the city welcomes a new day. The sun rises above the red rooftops as light bounces off the Vtlava river.
