So after weeks of moaning that we hadn’t been in the Christmas spirit, and getting funny looks when I walked around outside in my Santa hat the Christmas lights were finally turned on in the second week of December! Better late than never I suppose. The lights themselves are great, really beautiful, every street has a different design, but the square in front of the town hall has to be the most impressive, with a giant illuminated tree at one end of the fountains and the town hall itself lit up to look like a giant present at the other end. It was a real treat to see, the old city gates were also beautifully adorned with festive lights.

In Plaza de San Antonio an Ice Skating rink was constructed and as we were leaving they were also building a Christmas market in the square, unfortunately we never got to make the most of these because we left on 14th of December, and these attractions did not open until 15th, or so I am led to believe. So if you don’t want to miss out you may have to stick around a little later, granted we left a week before the end of university. There is also the reyes magos parade, for which the main street in the new town was closed to traffic, this was on 6thJan, and was a real spectacle to behold.
