Bunkers Trip Latvia
Hi guys!! In this post I will talk briefly about a very nice trip organized by the ESN. For all those people who doesn't know what the ESN is; the ESN is an organization created with the purpose of organizing activities and trips to make more interesting the life of the erasmus people. There are different ESN organizations for each country and for each city, so Riga has its own ESN organization.
So, yesterday we did one of this trips organized by the ESN, and it was pretty interesting. I can not say the exact place where we were, but I will try to ask and if I know the name, I will write it here.
We took a bus at 18:00 pm to go to the place. The bus was full of people, I think that all the tickets were sold quite fast. So we took the bus and the bus took us to a place 30 minuts ago more or less from Riga city... It was a forest somewhere. We had two guides during the excursion, one who was talking in Latvian, and other guide who was translating into English everything he was saying. We went into the forest to start our bunker tour, I think that in total we saw around 5 bunkers. They were in very good conditions, they started being covered by plants but still you can see and imagine perfectly how it was.
We also saw some rests of torpedos in the forest ground, lightning rods, ways which were roads in the past...and many remains of what was once a military base used by the Russian, German and Latvian Army. When the sun went down, the guides gave to each person one torch and we lit the torches. It was very beautiful to see all the people walking in the forest with the torches lights.
We were walking two and a half hours more or less, visiting different bunkers and at 20:00 we started our way back to the bus. I'm glad I took my boots because we were walking the whole two hours in the snow and also the bunkers were flooded.
It was an amazing trip, and very cheap (11€/person). Of course, walking with a torch through the forest with a lot of erasmus people is not something that you are going to do habitually. So don't hesitate and go to the bunker trip next year! You will live a really nice experience!!
