Experience in Besancon, France by Tania
What is it like to live in Besancon? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Besancon is a nice and welcomming city on the East of France with nice architecture, cheerful and helpful people. I would definately recomend going there especially to experience a student life there which I will describe futher..
What is the student lifestyle like in Besancon?
Besancon is the best city (after Paris) to experience Erasmus life. There are so many international students from everywhere, parties and fun that phares like "Je m'appele Tania, je viens d'Ukraine", "Je fais mes études au Fac de Lettres" will seem rutine to you! There are cool guys in ESN (Erasmus Student Network Besancon) who organizes many trips and parties. My second year is in England and I still talk and meet with friends I have met in Besac and all of us state that the year in Besancon was the best in our lives! I would definately recomend going there! And do no forget to study of course!
How much does it cost to live in Besancon?
Near 500 euros might be enough I think. Securitée Social will help you!
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Besancon? Is there any advice you can give?
Students usually live in Campus de Boulois. 20 min ride by bus to city center, and near 40 min of walk. Campus is fun. You can meet lots of people, do sports in a huge center nearby, eat at huge cafeteria, study in nice libraries...
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
The food is amazing there. Go to the restaurant called Au Vieux Comptois, on Grande Rue, near BNP bank and you will try delicious local dishes of Franche-Comte region (I recommend Gratin).
What places would you recommend visiting in Besancon?
Citadelle, 8 Avenue disco, Colorum bar...
What advice would you give future students heading to Besancon?
- Bring an Internet cable with you if you are going to reside in Campus CROUS;
- Avoid dealing with the office of Credit Lyonnais (LCL) Bank which is near Pont Battant and Kebab, they are rude and unprofessional there.
- Bring lots of passport-size photos with you (the French do like paper work and cards).
