Bergen

Day 6: August 5

It is still day 6. The boat arrived around 12:30 at Bergen harbour. Our next challenge awaited us, trying to find our hostel. It did not take us long to find it in the end, the YMCA hostel. We stayed in a 16 people dormitory, curious to know how that will work out.

Day 7: August 6

Today we went hiking again. A hike which would take us through the city and then to the top of Floyen. First, we came by Bergen's fish market. I tasted some fresh salmon, reindeer, moose and even whale (the latter wasn't that great, the salmon and reindeer were amazing! ). Totally unexpected, but grateful that I was able to taste a little piece of each kind, it is part of the culture of Norway, and therefore, I was really excited to try it. The hike featured a tough terrain climb, steep, up stones, and next to a huge waterfall! In the meantime we got acquainted with Bergen's famous weather, a lot of rain. And when I say a lot, it is really a lot. We were soaked when we reached the top of mount Floyen. When we reached the summit, we could not even see anything, due to the rainy weather and all the clouds. That was a shame. We drank some hot chocolate to warm up, up top and then took Floibanen back to the city centre. Floibanen is a little kind of train, that can take you up and down the mountain. One way is only 45nok per person. So worthwhile, escpecially during this kind of weather!

Day 8: August 7

Today we did a city tour in Bergen. We visited the old but incredibly famous neighbourhood Bryggen, the city centre, the Bergen aquarium, and the ice bar! Bryggen is a nice, cozy neighbourhood located near the harbour. The city centre is filled with nice shops and cozy cafés. The aquarium was small, however, this made that it was not packed with people. There was a nice selection of sea animals, we even got to see a sea lion show! It was very cute and exciting. I felt like a kid in a candy store. Then we went to the Magic Ice Bar, we enjoyed some Norwegian wine and sat next and on ice sculptures, an amazing experience! Afterwards, in the hostel, I met a guy from Switzerland and two girls from the United States. We went to the city with the girls in the evening, drank some drinks in a traditional Irish pub. It was a lovely day!

Day 9: August 8

Today we made a beautiful kayak trip through the Herdlefjorden. It was fascinating! First, we peddled through a bird reservation, all kinds of birds flew arond. When peddling further, we came across a big ship, which was a little scary, but fun as well with all the huge waves. Then we peddled around some islands, we made a stop at one of them to visit a tunnel from the Second World War. Afterwards, we enjoyed some lunch, that the instructors had brought with them for us. After lunch, we carried on, saw more islands, and crossed a big big canal! It was an amazing experience in a mesmerizing scenery. During the trip we met a girl from the Netherlands and a girl from Hong Kong. So many people, so many stories, never gets boring!

Day 10: August 9

Another traveling day. Today from Bergen to Oslo, by train again. One of the most spectacular train rides in Norway, I have been told. And it definetely was! From waterfalls, to cristal blue water, to snow on the top of the fjords, to lakes, to tiny little houses, to cities. Everything was inclued in this train ride. The hours flew by and before we knew we were back in Oslo.
