Experience in Belgrade, Yugoslavia by Mina
What is it like to live in Belgrade? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
I may be a bit biased since I was born here and I love this city no matter what, but living in Belgrade is one of the things I would never change. Of course, life is, as everywhere else, not ideal. However, besides beautiful places and rich culture, large number of ambitious young people is the reason why this city is a beautiful place to live in.
What is the student lifestyle like in Belgrade?
Sometimes it can get a bit tough, but if you manage your time and stick to your plans, you won't have problems. Except the exam period, when you'll probably be learning 24/7, it is possible to have a ballance between school and social life.
How much does it cost to live in Belgrade?
Belgrade is not one of the most expensive cities, which makes it great choice if you're considering to study here. Of course there are many places with quite high prices, but you can always find beautiful and cheap shops, cafes, or places to eat in if you only search for them outside the main strees.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Belgrade? Is there any advice you can give?
Prices of accommodation in the city centre are very high, so you may want to consider finding a flat in some of the cute neighbourhoods distant only 20 minutes from the centre.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
It's well known that Serbian people have a special kind of passion for food, so it will definitely live up to your expetations. However, if you don't like strong and caloric food, as Serbian national meals are, you don't have to worry since there are many other options. You'll find chinese or itallian food on every corner, and in the last few years there's more and more vegan, organic and salad bars. Also, make sure to visit our bakeries and old, traditional pastry shops - you will fall in love with them.
Is the nightlife good in Belgrade? Where is good to go?
Many people would describe Belgrade as the "city that never sleeps" and it's completely true. From pubs to bars and clubs, there are thounsands of locals you can visit if you are looking for a party. No matter what kind of music you like, there's no possibility of not finding a place that meets your interests.
